Dungeon - Aussie power/thrash
Dungeon were one of the bigger metal bands in Australia, who play a mix of power metal and thrash, with influences from bands like Kreator, Megadeth, Helloween, Gamma Ray and Dio. They've supported the likes of Malmsteen, Queensryche and Destruction here in Australia, and were direct support for Megadeth on their "Blackmail The Universe" Eurpoean tour.
Immediately after the Megadeth tour, Dungeon broke up, but the frontman "Lord Tim" formed the band LORD which for all intents and purposes is the same band, but withhout all the lineup and logistical proplems that plagued Dungeon. Not too long ago he released the Dungeon swansong The Final Chapter and is currently recording the new LORD album, Ascendance. Check 'em both out! http://myspace.com/dungeonmetal http://www.myspace.com/lordaus |

I've never been a fan of Dungeon or Lord, I have mates who love Aussie metal and the other Aussie bands like Black Majesty, I never could get into them, they always seemed rather amateur to me.

As far as power metal goes, most of them do sound quite amateur, but I think Dungeon/Lord are the exception. If you want to hear them with a big slick production, then their album A Rise To Power has that kinda sound. Since then they've been going for that vintage thrash guitar tone, but it really doesn't sit well with the uber-clear drums; I can imagine people blaming the inconsistency on lack of quality control. When you look into the other genres of metal, and especially the grindcore stuff, there are Aussie bands who more than hold their own.
