Neck replacement

Quick question...

Can you put a 24-fret neck on a guitar that had a 22 fret neck? Scale problems, any problems? I have a few ideas for some guitar mods and I want to see if it's even feasible.

I think it will mess stuff up because if the neck is from a guitar with the same scale-length you'd be increasing the scale-length by pushing the nut further away from the bridge,i think?

I suppose you could do it if you cut the neck-pocket further in but then that would mess lots of other things up.

There's no problems other than making sure the mount holes are drilled in the same area. I don't know if a 24 fret neck sits deeper in the body than a 22 fret neck since they're different scale lengths. If they don't sit in the body any different than the holes should line up fine. Give Warmouth a quick call to ask them. They'll know.

Unless it's a special neck designed to mod a 22 to a 24 or vice versa, then yes, you'll have scale problems.

I was watching a video of Unearth and both guitarists have Saber customs with 24 fret necks. So they must have the necks specially designed. I often wondered myself if a 24 fret neck would be alright on a Saber where they have 22 fret necks. Ibanez must've specially designed the necks for them.

That's what I'm talking about.

I want to mod my S7 with a 24 fret RG/Universe neck.

There's only two ways to do that.
a. Run the neck into the pickup cavity

or

b. change to a long scale neck designed to place the 24th fret right where the old 22nd fret is, I can calculate what scale length you'd need if you want.

Interesting. Does Ibanez make a neck like that?

No, it'd have to be custom made.
