I was never a big opeth fan untill
Ghost reveries. Excellent album. Take away more the cookiee monster vocals ( he's got such a good voice) and I would claim this as a perfect CD..

I totally agree on the growling thing. I've never gotten into the "I have to take a shit and it feels like razor blades coming out my ass" approach to singing. Otherwise, that disc is about as perfect as they come.

Mike's got the best growl out there - deep and evil, yet still understandable and having inflection on top of it. I like "Ghost Reveries" (much more than "Deliverance"), but "Still Life" and "Blackwater Park" are their peak, to me.

For me, based sheerly on the fact I'm not THAT metal, it's "Damnation." It's just a gorgeous album, and it actually pissed me off when I first heard it because I'd been wanting to do a sparse, acoustic "metal" album for the longest time, and they beat me to it.

After Damnation, though, I'm with you, Mike. Those are two amazing albums.
