Who has their "dream" tone
Probably going to get a lot of AXE/Kemper guys on here so this is mainly for the old dudes people with tubes
Does anyone have their dream tone right now, why and what is it? I do! Its not the most expensive gear in the world and its so simple Prs ce24 - maxon od808 - marshall 2204 50w jcm800 (1984) - 300w Jcm900 cabinet I have all the tones I want out of this simple rig, biggest downside is that the stack is far too impractical for my house so I really should sell it ![]() Am i blessed with good luck in finding my sound? I *like my tone* but I feel like "dream tone" is an urban myth used to sell you more stuff to plug your guitar into.
"... and on either side of the river was the tree of life. The leaves of this tree were for the healing of nations." "He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle and the herb for the service of man." "Lifes too short to hate Floyd Roses." |

Man - even Vai, Satch, and Petrucci (who have inspired quite a few "dream tones") keep changing their gear out like the rest of us...
Dream Tone? I dunno if there is one. Although I am quite happy with mine. Fine Dark Rum. Martinique Rum. Lime Juice. Orange Curaçao. Orgeat Syrup. Simple Syup.

My dream tone is entirely dependant on volume levels, riffs played and no. of internal organs vibrating, not "tone" as such.

I don't think I'll ever find my "dream tone", not sure if there is one.
However, I have a good tone out of my "dream amp" that I'm shits n giggles for. My current rig being a 3channel dual rec with a couple of pedals, with some lightly modded mid range guitars. My shitty playing: http://soundcloud.com/pinchuk www.youtube.com/lemeker It's like an adage I heard once: "If you're a hunter and your prey starts shooting back at you, quit hunting and start selling ammo." I think a dream tone can be about as hard to pinpoint as a dream band. Most of us go through phases, even if you predominantly listen to rock music you might have a few days where you think AC/DC in the 80's was the pinnacle of musical perfection, then before you know it you're listening to Bon Jovi or Pantera.
I've had several tones that were satisfying at different times for different parts or solos, but that's about it. I can tell you my Schecter has a peak at 4550Hz that I like to get rid of with a parametric EQ etc. but other than those kinds of things I can't imagine finding one tone that would be optimal in any situation. |

I must be in a minority. I don't want to change it.
I have a cornford harlequin that sounds great but not exactly what I want I got podfarm to record with (miking up is not an option!) and I just want it to sound exactly like my marshall Am i a freak or have I damaged my ears?

I've got a few of mine!
The ISP Theta cleans are a throwback to that Alex Lifeson late 80's chime... the high gains from the Theta are a smooth almost Rocktron kinda vibe that is just incredible for leads... and the Engl e530 satisfies the heaviest of all crushing tones for me... semi-hollow EMG loaded Ibanez direct is wooden and earthy... Enough knobs to tweak here and there... updating pickups in some of the guitars to different EMG's (other than the 85)... Tones beyond my wildest dreams... the dream changes constantly... ========================================= ISP Theta Preamp, ISP Theta Combo!!! Rocktron Xpression, Lexicon MPX500, Aria Diamonds with EMG 85, Ibanez Semi-Hollow with EMG HA and HAX, Eminence Swamp Thang and Eminence Sub Woofer! |

I am not saying I wouldn't try other things but I don't have that crazy bank account destroying lust that actually makes me lay down the cash
I lust for pretty guitars but I have a hard time justifying spending money when I am happy just now. I NEED a 7 string and another 6 for drop C but thats because I hate messing up intonation I'm Scottish but I'm not Ginger ![]() my Easter Solo Challenge http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/rec...challenge.html |

I have obtained a tone I am somewhat fond of on my standard axe.
It sounds like shit with every other guitar I've tried that patch with.

i think once I discovered the tube screamer and that its better to not have your gain at eleven I started to find really good tones that worked for me. Currently messing with impulses and amplitube and saving for a pod hd pro

Everytime I turn on my powerball I hear my dream tone. I'm sure theres other amps that would probably make me feel otherwise but for right now I got it.

Dream tones may be rare, but I do believe in dreams amps that can give you a variety of great tones.

I was totally happy with my old live tone when I was gigging with my Les Paul -> Single Rec -> Recto cab. It was thick, heavy and nasty. Loved it.
I know you excluded Axe users, but that did change everything for me. I didn't know how happy I wasn't until I got one. Ignorance truly was bliss for me. Like I'm saying with the Axe, I said back then: "I'll never need anything else." You always need something else at some point. It's how gear companies stay in business. |

I've even noticed that sometimes I'm not at all fond of a guitar's sound but when I play with someone it sounds awesome. Context is everything.

I don't even think such a thing exists!
Who here can say they have had the same tone since they realised which tone they wanted in the first place? I change my tone almost on a weekly basis ...constant fiddling pretty much since I started playing. Longest tone I was happy with was with my Orange but that was playing doom/sludge ...soon as I quit the band the Orange no longer seemed like the best option. On the flip side..the tri rec I had before that was super awesome for playing death metal but sucked for doom. |
