Andy James is a jewel in the rough
Open strings can still be played even with it on. The beauty of the hairband is that it is not that tight, but stops the strings (especially the low b) from vibrating uneccessarily.

I know, but they don't ring in the same way, which is fine if all you need them for is EVH-style pull-off licks, but not if you want Alex Lifeson-type open string chords.

After seeing your videos, I can't see how anyone could argue with you about that.

As I already said, excellent stuff.

He is right though. You just have to somehow get used to the technique of sliding it on and off i guess. Thats the only way round it. I myself dont utilise too much open string playing at the moment so it doesnt effect it to much. I do play six aswell and generally dont use a hairband for that, depends what im playing really.

Same goes for me; I don't use the band at all on my Gibson and Dean guitars, as those are the ones I tend to use to that sort of rhythm playing. Everything's a compromise unfortunately.
It's a bitch for me, as I like a lot of ringy, open-tuned chords, but at the same time I like seven-string shredding, so multiple guitars are the only solution...
