Haha, missed this. Bob, I WILL say that the Roland Cube 30 stomps all over all the Line6 gear I've played, but I'll also note that we're talking a YouTube video, which isn't exactly the best medium for tone...

Seriously though, I really dug the Cube 30 I tried. Sure it paled comapred to the F-30 and Mark-IV I was playing immediately before, but it was also like a fifth of the price.

is that lesson any good actually? I come from a jazz background and so I'm not very experienced in shredding, so I wouldn't know if that's a particularly good one for speed/technique building. Any thoughts?
I always wanted to learn some Paganini :P

Any violin music is great for developing your chops. Dial up some distortion and try and get the tone as well...it'll pay dividends later.

As well as Paganini, try some of the Bach violin sonatas, as they sit really well on the guitar, and if you come from a jazz background, they should be pretty accesible to you already, as they have a lot in common with bebop licks.

my teacher was trying to force me to learn this at some point. I did manage to get a couple of sheets down, but I think I forgot everything by now

Also, what's the deal with distortion being so much harder to use when playing that stuff than with just clean + some delay (to make it prettier :P ) ?? I did notice this fact myself today while practicing that Paganini thing, but I don't have an explanation.
