Making sure work isn't stolen?
Not been active here in a long while but I know you guys tend to be in the know about this kind of stuff. I've tabbed out a bunch of songs in Guitar Pro that I want to send out to potential band members, how can I ensure that the music can't be stolen?

To be completely honest you really can't as far as I'm aware. Once you've sent someone the tabs of everything you've written it's out of your hands.

Have some form of written, video, or some kind of documentation showing you had the songs in your possession before they did. Simplest thing I could think of would be making a video showing the tabs and something that shows the date and time of year that clearly cant be changed, like a news website or something.
Very crude but I know people who have done it. Or, you can register an ISRC for it? Then you would be the sole owner of that code, as long as you know it and no one else does then it should be fine. However that takes time and money to do. |

I may be incorrect, but the various "poor man's copyright" methods-mailing it to yourself, etc doesn't hold up in court(in the US anyway-I don't know about abroad).
If you think you have something I'd err on the side of caution and properly register for copy rights to your IP. |

texshred777 is correct, that kind of thing doesn't actually work. You will have to record whatever you can of the material, and purchase a copyright on it. My memory's a bit hazy on the process, but it isn't particularly long, and it's not expensive. Do some digging of your own on taking out a copyright, see what's involved, and what you need to do to get the process started.
And it might not be my place to ask, but why are you sending original music out to "potential" band members? |

There are only 12 notes. No matter how original you think your music is someone has probably already created the same melody. Therefore you probably need to create a full composition, press a CD and then copyright it by sending it to the government. Then you have some legal recourse.
@zeaoth I just shoved the damn p/u into the cavity. I forced that shit. It works. @DTo8 Does every 8strings buzzes on the low strings? @MatthewLeisher I'd take a dump on a 6505 if the Axe FX asked me to. |
