Goddamn, Brian May kicks ass!

Been listening to Queen all morning, and every time I revisit them, it still amazes me how eclectic and well-crafted Brian May's guitar parts are, and not just the harmony parts; there's some great acoustic parts on their back catalogue, and his phrasing on later songs like 'These Are the Days of Are Lives' and 'Who Wants to Live Forever' sounds almost like a proto-John Petrucci...

Dreaming in infared...

He's just an awesome player, period - very tasty and inventive, and versatile, too. Some of his rhythm figures are quite interesting, too.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

Definitely...it's really cool how he adopts a more classical chordal style as opposed to most of the standard rock voicings.
Just listened to 'Innuendo' where he plays with Steve Howe (another unique player)... It's really cool how you can immediately tell who's playing what just from listening to a couple of bars.

I've always been a fan of Brian May. Queen was one of my father's favorite bands from the 70s so I grew up listening to them. I think Brian May has one of the best tones out there too, it's so smoothe. My favorite solo by him is on Killer Queen. I just love his tone on that song.

Brian May really is the man. He has an absolutely distinct style and tone, and he is such a tasteful player. To me, it's like every note he played was golden. He has an amazing ear for melody and harmony, and he knew exactly how to compliment any song with his playing.

Also, he is just an awesome mellow laid back dude. For someone who paved so many roads guitar-wise and influenced so many people, he was always very level-headed about it in the way he carried himself. If I had to choose the one player that I'd most want to emulate in the grand scheme of things, it would be him hands down.

There was an old interview he did with Nuno Bettencourt, where Nuno was very clearly in awe of him, but he was still really humble and self-depreciating throughout the whole thing. He does come across as being a really nice guy.

Considering Queen's entire catalog and the number of players he has influenced, the man is almost criminally under-appreciated. You can't make it through a year without seeing Page, Hendrix, or Wylde on the cover of a guitar magazine, yet Brian May rarely gets a cover. The dude built a guitar to complement his own style, how fucking cool is that?
