Favorite Quadruple Threats!

There are a lot of musicians out there that can play, write, sing, or shred. Some are even good at a few of them, but I think the list of guys/gals that can do all four is pretty short.

Nuno Bettencourt. He's a beast. His rhythm work is out of this world and his soloing chops are second to none. He can write pop songs, ballads, rock, and metal. Killer voice, both solo and as a harmonist.

Prince. Seriously... what can this man not do? Monster player on every instrument that he touches. His vocals are always top notch and he has written songs in every genre possible! Plus, he can shred melodically or just slow burn some soul!

Anyone else?

Fine Dark Rum. Martinique Rum. Lime Juice. Orange Curaçao. Orgeat Syrup. Simple Syup.

Myles Kennedy comes to mind. While his live tone isn't exactly inspiring, the guy is actually a really solid guitarist. And, dear lord, what a set of pipes on him.

Why are play and shred 2 different things? Is it possible to be able to shred without being able to play?

If jazz scat singing counts, then Shawn Lane. If you can watch that man play something like Hardcase, Esperanto or The Hurt The Joy, you can just see the virtuosity oozing from him. Absolutely incredible.

I'm assuming that is the realm of dudes who are technical powerhouses but still can't bend in tune or use good vibrato to save their lives, i.e. tons of metal/shred guys today.

There are cats that can play awesome solos but can't create a solid rhythmic pocket. Scott Ian can totally play awesome riffs, but he is not a great soloist. I'm trying to think of players that can nail everything down.

Complete musicians.

From some of the clinics he's given where he sings in unison with his piano playing, I'd be inclined to believe he could easily do an album with him on vocals.

Dan Mongrain from Martyr. Granted, he doesn't have the best vocals, but that's just another duty that's on his hands.

Johnny Shnizz...who? A one man bedroom producer under the moniker: ForTiorI

Part of the up & coming Djent scene. He has tutorials on how he goes about drum programming, recording & mixing, etc. Produced a couple of videos showing his guitar playing(7string) & bass playing. A staple on Got-Djent.com.

I also like Blackie Lawless(W.A.S.P.). He started as a bassist. Been a guitarist for a while now. Only original guy left.

Russ Parish (Satchel) from Steel Panther. He has a softer rock band that he sings and plays guitar in, also does harmonies for the Panther. Pretty sure he writes most of the SP riffs (great ones, by the way) and he can shred his ass off like it's nobody's business.

I'd never heard them before. Suddenly the dude is ripping off face melting sweeping/tapping parts while singing and making awesome metal faces all simultaneously.

I paid a lot more attention after that.

True. I just wish he hadn't died so young. Only two albums are not enough of his music. It's like dangling the best steak in the world in front of you, letting you take one bite, then taking the rest away forever.

Reiterating what others have said, Myles Kennedy, (now with his solo album coming out) Mark Tremonti, Akerfeldt, Devin Townsend, Jerry Cantrell, and from the few songs w/ vocals he's done, Steve Vai.
