What song has the most sentimental meaning to you?

I know this is kind of a *** subject but I'm feeling pretty bad right now. The first time I herd this song was at the exact moment I had uncovered evidence I had been being cheated on by my insignificant other of 7 years. I've been struggling with depression since. This song makes me feel super horrible, but at the same time alve? I don't know how to explain it. I'm, a metal head at heart but this song defines me right now. Makes me want to chill and not flip the *** out like I would have if I was listening to Emmure at the time!

What songs have helped you get through the hard times?

Really sorry mate to hear you are going through such a hard time. Being cheated on is really pretty disgusting and just kicks you down so bad.... Know it may seem hollow right now but I promise you will get through it and come out on top of the world in the end.

When the same thing happened to me (Cheating Ex left takign most of my stuff) the track that kept kicking me in the arse but for some reason made it all Ok was Dry your Eyes by The Streets.... funny thing is I can't listen to it any more now, always turn it over as it reminds me of a time I don't like to think about any more

Take care dude.

Slipknot's Snuff, DT's Space Dye Vest, Evegrey's Closure. Those songs helped me(still does) through the devastating ending of my previous relationship.

p/s: I'm at work so I can't link those songs.

Stay strong bro!!

not really any songs to add but to the OP i know exactly how you feel. i just delt with the same thing with my ex a few months ago. cheated and left me with our new (larger and WAY more expensive) apartment to foot the bill and run off with a fire fighter (.... 'em). just take all those feelings and put some pen to paper. my writing hasd never felt so real and organic. it's amazing how much hate one can spew onto paper and equally amazing how much better you feel when it's all done and out. hang in there man, cheating is a subject very near to me (as this was the 3rd time ive been cheated on in my life) and i know it sucks. just know that you're now better off because of it.

Reminds me of a summer romance with a young lady when I was 17. My first real girlfriend and my first real heartbreak. Doesn't help that I'd lost my virginity to her either

Steve Vai's "Whispering a prayer" from the Live at the Astoria dvd. No particular event to link this song to, but it's a real time machine for me. Listening to it (and watching the incredible performance) I'm 15 years old again, life is much simpler and I've never heard anything like it.

Fast forward to 2012, and I'm a few years on from feeling pretty burned out by music. I lived music back when I was a teenager, towards the age of 18 I just started to feel like I'd heard it all and nothing blew me away like Vai, Satch, Lane did, and by that point I'd pretty much devoured all of the music they had out. I sometimes wish I could recreate that feeling the first time you hear that amazing album, with the songs that you play on repeat and the licks that stick in your head for days, but it is impossible. While I still hear bands these days that I like, and I never stopped loving some bands, being a young lad and feeling like I was standing up to my ankles in a sea of music waiting to hear it was a great thing for me. "Whispering a prayer" takes me back there. Seeing Vai play it live in 2005 on the Real Illusions tour was like a religious experience to me. Some moments in time can simply never be recreated.

First that come to mind, not going into the meaning of each one though. Not precisely the most uplifting material, but mopey songs help my mopey moods.

Hope they can be of help.

My mom used to sing this to me when I was really young and it would come on the radio in the car. It holds a special meaning to me because I can remember how when she sang it I could hear the seriousness in every word. It's like she wrote the song herself.

Another one is Wake Up by Coheed and Cambria. I can't listen to it anymore since it has to do with my ex. But the lyrics basically are exactly what happened to me. Girl came into my life, we fell in love, then boom....she hopped on a plane and left never to be seen again.

Similar to the post above, around 13 years of age I realized I didn't really believe in God. It was kind of devastating as a child, really terrible on some levels, this song just made me feel there were others things to believe in, things that didn't let you down.

No one needs to know why on this one, but this song is my go to song for when I feel like putting a bullet in my head.

A close friend of mine was a huge Nine Inch Nails fan and really got me into them more when I was in college. During my junior year, I was supposed to go to a NIN show with my sister for her birthday. I had tickets and everything but I had to go do a presentation for a school group and so I couldn't go. My buddy ended up going for me and made sure my sister had a great birthday. NIN were coming back our senior year and we were planning on getting tickets to see the show together. The tickets went on sale on a Friday, but he passed away on a Tuesday. I still ended up getting tickets to the show and this time I could join my sister. His favorite song was Hurt. I can't make it through that song without crying. Hell, I can hardly keep it together thinking about the song. But being able to see that song performed in person despite its meaning to me was one of the best things I have ever subjected myself to. At least now I can keep it together and still listen to NIN without losing it.

Like this one, which reminds me of staying home from school while my mom took care of me as a kid.

My longest relationship of 8 months (Yeah, I know, not that long) was with a girl that after I broke up with her for cheating, I found out she was cheating the entire time and never gave one single .... about me. This was our song that I learned after only playing guitar for less than a year and sucked balls. Brings back memories that were good at the time but now just seem like such shit. Also makes me miss that blissful ignorance.

This was my little 8th grade angsty emo ass' jam. Lots of crying while listening to this one
