Do i have a problem?

hey all!

i love guitars. i love the feeling of opening the box of a brand new axe. most of my friends dont do what i do however.

i usually keep a new guitar for a couple months, then trade it. all of my friends all have the same guitars that theyve gotten over the years, and say theyll never get rid of them. they all look at me like im crazy and one of them actually gets pissed off when i tell him that ive traded another guitar. ive tried explaining to him that until i find that one guitar that sends chills down my spine, ill keep doing it. does anyone else do this? like not hang onto gear for long periods of time? i mean sure ive had some great guitars over the years; but i still havent found that ONE GUITAR that i truly felt that i need to keep. i just traded a couple guitars for a SC-608b that should be here in a week or two, so we'll see how that goes.

anyone else?

I used to trade stuff all the time, or sell something to buy something else.

Not anymore. I regret getting rid of EVERYTHING I've ever had in my possession. Don't get as much gear as a result, but I don't lose anything either.

If tryin' out new stuff is what ya dig, then dig it.

Sounds like you get tired of owning things for too long and that you enjoy perpetuating that "new guitar feeling". If you're looking for the perfect axe, you're not going to find it by treating your guitar as an indispensable toy. Chances are, the more you trade, the less you'll be satisfied with your guitar--furthering the trading process and bringing about that new guitar feeling (which can lose its appeal over time). Kind of like guys who go through 20 girlfriends in a year, only to come to the realization later in life that you don't just find people that perfectly suit you: you've gotta make it work.

If you're really trying to find the be-all, end-all guitar, then you've gotta make it yourself. Figure out what you want and modify your axes. Shit, go fully custom if you know exactly what you want so that you can finally have your personal, tailored axe.
