So basically you're saying they have 200,000 die hard fans that will buy anything with a VH label on it...

And there are still some 80's bands that rock... the new Whitesnake and Tesla albums were good!

VH... not so much.

Truth!!!

I've never been a big fan of VH. DLR's crooner style never appealed to me, despite the band having good musicianship. They lack too much credibility, with all this drama.

And as for other 80s bands still being good, definitely! Whitesnake's Forevermore was a kickass record, better than anything Coverdale's contemporaries are releasing these days. And I can't believe how amazing he sounds these days. And he's 60!

Nah, I never said that that the album was WORTH the 200,000 it made in sales. I didn't really like the album that much either.

I'm just saying that Van Halen ARE still pretty relevant, compared to most hard rock bands these days.

I did hear a few tracks from the WS album, and I did prefer them to ADKOT. Never gave the new Tesla album a listen, though.

They released a statement on their news desk stating they "bit off more than they can chew" by scheduling so many shows so soon. Basically, they will postpone some shows and take a break for a bit then resume touring.

Had a friend that went to the show in St. Paul and told me about it today. She said she is convinced there is something neurologically wrong with DLR. Also went on to say what a weird and awkward experience it was and overheard other women in the bathroom talking about how awful it was, how old/ugly/decrepit/insane DLR is. There was a point at which he had an acoustic number where he was talking about breeding sheep-dogs or something? I guess half the show was new material too

Probably a good thing some of these shows are getting canceled.

Since people have been posting setlists and entire shows on youtube, it's safe to say your friend is full of crap.

Dave's voice is giving out. He forgets a lot of lyrics. He's as campy and rambling as he's always been. The setlists have been a vast majority of classics, with 3 or 4 new tunes total. The band likely saw all the youtube criticism of Dave telling the same jokes every night and his voice giving out and they decided to take a little time to get some new banter and recoup a little.

They've said as much in the video they released.

I don't know why you'd buy your friend's take when there's so many videos being posted. They're encouraging taping. There's a ton of footage from the St Paul show on youtube. They're as good as ever. People annoyed by Dave being off key and refusing to sing the right words and melody have never seen David Lee Roth front Van Halen back in the day. He's always sucked like that.

"There's no such thing as bad press".

Anywho... update from VHND:

"Just when we all were beginning to think we were going to get a killer Van Halen album and an entire tour without any drama whatsoever, look what happens!
Yesterday, Van Halen POSTPONED (not canceled!) most of their Summer tour dates with no reason given. Immediately, speculation ran wild. Fans wondered if there were health issues. Rolling Stone quotes a mysterious “source with knowledge of the tour” who supposedly said the band members “hate each other” and are “arguing like mad.”
The Van Halen News Desk now has some answers form our trusted and proven sources. Other than those Summer dates having to be moved, it’s actually good news.
First off, no one in the band is sick. No health problems.
Second, we knew right away that Rolling Stone’s “source” is completely wrong, and can not possibly be a person with actual inside knowledge of the tour, because all four band members have been getting along splendidly throughout the entire tour. Roth and the Van Halen’s talk every day, and they are all smiles on stage. Everyone who’s seen the tour or even youtube videos can confirm that.
In fact, the band is on such a high from playing together this year and they were really taken aback by the Rolling Stone quote. They’re older and wiser and haven’t had any issues with one another.
Why were these dates postponed? The band has been working tirelessly for the last 18 months – writing and recording “A Different Kind Of Truth”, filming the “Tattoo” video, rehearsing, putting together the show themselves (lighting, the videos, the stage, routing the tour, and lots of behind the scenes stuff that most people don’t even know about). The band wants the second leg to be as awesome as the first. And for that to happen they want to put more time into the planning of it. Not just continue on with the same show.
Van Halen is very enthusiastic about the rest of the tour and wants be on the road for a long time. Just how long remains to be seen, but we’ll say that the tour will probably continue into next year. They are now considering touring Australia and Japan in the near future.
As it stands now, the 31 postponed US shows are due to be rescheduled. There should be some sort of official announcement forthcoming."

I agree, but the chemisty does indeed look natural, and not forced.
Roth in another Vimeo post indicates that basically, they are exhausted, need some rest, and will resume the tour so they can give the best show possible. Financially, the tour has been very successful.

They aren't exactly 22 yrs old anymore, and I can attest that at my meager age of 46, I feel my age having an effect on my energy as well.

Ironically, beside the occasional interuptions, Roth is very lucid, and intelligible interviewer. He's far more intelligent that one would expect, because 9 out of 10 times that he's on camera, he is "in character".

He wouldn't have lasted as an EMT in NYC if he were mouthing off all the time. He'd have been shot long before now, so there's proof that he can turn it on or off at will. That's actually the mark of a great entertainer.

Dave has been forgetting lyrics since the late '70s when I first started seeing =vH=. He was still forgetting lyrics when I saw his band with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan (awesome--totally awesome)! I never cared. He's funny.

Those guys always argue, so that part is no surprise. They were 86 shows into it when it dawned on them that they had booked a schedule way too grueling for most people, regardless of age.
