The
Seems metal these days is dominated by "amelodic" metal. So let's throw out some of the more harmonious stuff, as well as some of the more melody-oriented. Some of my faves:
Stratovarius Kamelot Rhapsody of Fire Amon Amarth Scar Symmetry Children of Bodom Nightwish Twilightning(RIP) NEED MORE! ![]() Please note that this is all in jest and yet also serious, why not group up some of the more melodic bands? EDIT - What the hell happened to the title? EDIT 2 - "The" would be a fantastic band name. Come join the SS.org Minecraft server! Or not, it's your choice. It sucks Twilightning fell apart, Delirium Veil is about as good as it gets in my opinion.
As for my recommendation, instead of listing a bunch of stuff I'll just mention the Russian band Ghosthill. To my ear, they're the most interesting power metal band of late. |

Timeless Miracle is exceptional if you can get past the vocals. Equilibrium's album Sagas is also really good.
Edguy and Avantasia are kind of hit or miss, but when they hit they hit hard. Edguy/Avantasia songs worth checking out: Theater of Salvation, Nailed to the Wheel, New Age Messiah, We Don't Need a Hero, The Pharaoh, The Seven Angels, Shelter From the Rain, States of Matter, and Wastelands. If that's not enough melody for you then you're doing something wrong

Seconded. My all time favorite.
Also of note (pun?): Novembre Anathema (though I don't even know if they can be deemed "metal" anymore) Circus Maximus 3 Masterplan "Whether it's Rogaine, your 'stache or magic, this guitar needs a friggin beard now." - BangandBreach Is it a right to remain ignorant? I don't know, but I refuse to find out! |

Mors Principium Est
Hoping for a new album late 2012 and that the new guitarists are able to fill some amazingly big shoes. |
