Holy shit it is... This was the album that first made me a fan. I'd picked up "Surfing..." after hearing an awesome live version of "Always With Me..." and thought it was great guitar, but I couldn't get into the sound of it. Then I grabbed the G3, and thought it was cool, but that was as far as I really went.

I finally bought Crystal Planet after seeing a transcription for the tapped intro to "Raspberry Jam Delta-V" in a Guitar Player interview, and wanted to hear if I'd gotten it down right.

The damned thing only left my CD player, for the next two weeks, to go into someone else's. "Holy shit, you have to hear this album!"

G3 (1997) got me into Satriani. my very next purchase (in 1999) was Crystal Planet

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

Vai's "Alien Love Secrets" (provided you skip Ya-Yo-Gakk) and Neil Zaza's "Staring at the Sun." That's really about it, though.

The original video for "Satch boogie" got me into Satriani back in the days.
Searched all over the web to find it...but can't.
Anyone has it? (he's playing in a white bare studio...if i remember correctly. Haven't seen this in ages).

I've been into Satch pretty much since day one, but I'd definitely rate Crystal Planet in his top three, along with Surfing and The Extremist.

Those would probably be my 3 picks as well. I just wish Surfing had better production. I would probably also throw in Flying In A Blue Dream too.... and I kind of like the newest one the more I listen to it.
