Maybe, I'd give it a shot. As long as it's more than the forum.

A monthly DVD magazine would be a better idea (like 411VM for skateboarding, know what I mean ?)

I think an extended range instrument magazine could be really cool. A little niche, but interesting nonetheless.
You could find 90% of your resources for interviews and the like here, too. |

Sorry guy, it won't work. Many reasons:
1) This isn't a niche - it's a super-niche. There are already general metal magazines out there, and you can see how much advertising they have to sell to stay afloat. 2) We like this place because of the constant influx of ideas and comments. A monthly publication will just repeat what we've been saying for the last few weeks. 3) Print media is seriously not doing well. Most people are busy building websites from magazines/newspapers, not the other way around. |

Slightly off topic, but have there ever been Sevenstring.org t-shirts offered.
Seems a good way to inspire donations. Like maybe a free black t-shirt with $50 donation or 2 with a $100 donation. Would be a cool way to identify other members when hanging at shows or even at music stores. |

I read it for free here. And I even get to participate.

I think it'd be cool. You could have user written columns and bring back GOTY or GOTM. Plus, some of the cool little sticky threads on here with lots of info can be put in there. It'd bring members to the forum, as well as having a cool magazine for those interested in 7's, 8',s 9's, ERB's, and beyond. There are a lot of cool custom instruments on here. Perhaps maybe certain builders could be featured in the magazine as well?

Yeah I doubt out of the 50 thousand members here that even 1/16 of them would subscribe.

Also note that only about 4,000 are actually active. The majority of that number is probably just spammers and sellers.

I can imagine the guitar review page:
Guitar: Fender squier seven Pickups: Sounded dreadful, swapped with BKP nailbomb Specs: 25,5"... But we put a warmoth conversion neck on it, because it wasn't baritone! Finish: Well, now it's bubinga veneer Djents: YEAH Or the gear page: Item: Vox nighttrain aposdj Does it djent normally?: No Does it djent with BKP?: Sort of Does it djent with Bulb?: Hardly Does it djent with Bulb, Axe-FX and BKP alltogether?: Meh, could be better. Verdict: stay away. And maybe a purchase of the month award... First months winner would be the Wet Sock. You could add like, highlights of each month in ss.org.
Such as different people's building progress if they're keeping pictures coming of the progress. Also just any cool licks. And again, more highlights. I'd gladly keep up with buying each issue! It could also make some more things to talk about in the forum! |

No I wouldn't. News travels too slow through printed word. Most mags take 3+ months for news to break. I don't really even think there is really enough truly new material out that would justify someone buying the mag every month. I mean, take a look at the guitar mags out today. How many times has Crazy Train or Fade to Black been tabbed out? Or how many times have you read some rehash of a rehash of some article on Randy Rhoads can you read? Or how many exercises on some scale run in e minor can you do?
Honestly when I'm at GC or a bookstore, I don't even both to flip through the guitar mags because there isn't anything that interests me that I don't already know of. I think it's the for sale forums, news and new gear days that is what makes forums interesting and worthwhile. None of these really work for mags. |
