How does one sing like this man (Sir Russell)?
![]() ![]() Legit question. ![]() Anyway, so I recently had one of the greatest nights of my life. Seeing Symphony X live and meeting them! It was so cool! Meet all the guys, who were nice enough to give time for a photo, and autograph, they couldn't talk much (busy). Except for Pinella, he had sometime, so we went to Starbucks! It was so cool to sit down and have a cup with a legend! He also even asked the guys to play the Odyssey becuase I asked. So I was up from at the show, and it was coming towards the end and I was chanting "Odyssey, Odyssey!" Romeo looks at me with a smile, and shakes his head. He was really tired that day. It was great though! Meet Romeo, Jason, and Lepond as well! Romeo is something else live, and it's totally different from seeing anything on youtube or hearing it on the album. It was incredible. His fingers never come off that fretboard. ![]() Everybody was incredible as well! Ran into Russell 3 times, and we had a lot of eye contact during the show, ![]() It was fun. Any new comers to Symphony X, there's minor cursing in their songs at times. *Conscious cleared* Hope you guys enjoy and God Bless, Xiphos68 Thanks Symphony X for all the fun! Photos all done by my Dad (Stephen Routh). ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yeah I'd like to see more proggy as well.
Anyway, it was a lot of Iconoclast songs (6 I think), and 3 Paradise Lost songs, Inferno (I got so excited haha), and Of Sins and Shadows. Inferno was the best song they performed. Otherwise, no. Not many suprises. Thanks, Dad does a great job! Have a question about The Gospel or prayer request, PM me. Happy to help and God Bless! Nice pics man.I have seen Symphony X in concert ,7 times. They always put on a great show, and they are very cool people also.I also wish Russell Allen would sing like he did in the past. But then again their music has changed fom progressive metal to a more aggressive power metal style.Live, Michael Romeo plays with such relaxation, even if he is playing a very technical riff or solo he never seems stiff or robotic.

after so many years of the same setlist, they need to do a tour where they just play shit they never play. Savage Curtain, Dressed to Kill, Orion the Hunter, just a whole crazy setlist of amazing songs they never play live.
That's the only way I'm ever seeing them live again after seeing live 10 times since V came out. |

*old guy humble brag*
I was at a show, I think it was their first or second show ever in the US (they toured Europe with Twilight, but didn't play in the US until V I'm pretty sure) and it was in a motorcycle showroom in central jersey, and there was no stage, and I think that was one of the only times they played Dressed to Kill live, and it was awesome. |

I remember seeing them in '05. Russell's a powerhouse and Romeo is just liquid-shred.

Pretty damn good of them to take time to chat with an obvious fan. Many props for that

I'd love to be able to sing like Russell Allen, both his higher majestic notes and his ultra-powerful growl-singing. But then, I don't think that kind of range (pure low to high) is something that can really be taught. My range is decent, but no where near guys like Russell Allen, and his projection is the stuff of legend.

Awesome DLG!
Hey, guess what my friend saw the next show after mine and they actually played Evolution from V! They didn't do it at my show, I talked to Pinella a lot about V, so I wonder if I was the inspiration for that. ![]() FG - Absolutely, though I wish the other guys got as much as credit as those guys do. Everybody else is incredible as well! MW - Absolutely, Pinella was so cool! Xaios - So well put, I don't even know what to say.

I don't know if they are lazy and don't want to rehearse new songs or if their fans really demand the same old songs for every tour. |

I'm not sure if this was just for us but on the song "When all is lost" he Russel dedicated the song to his mom. Both his mom and dad were watching in the center of the pit (no moshing going on lol). It was pretty cool. And yes Romeo is a monster! |

DLG - Who knows? I'm hoping one day they will, btw that old singer really isn't that bad?
Alimination - Cool man! That song is too awesome, actually during that song Russell blew a kiss to my friend Amy. XD Have a question about The Gospel or prayer request, PM me. I'd be fine if they never did any pre-DWOT songs live, I just wish they'd do more songs from V.

They were great this time around, as usual. I was at the Charlotte and Raleigh shows. I wish we would get some more older stuff as well. The new stuff is great but completely different. V is my favorite album of all time.
I did listen to a very recent interview where MJR said they were thinking about a very special set for ProgPower 2012 and would be playing some older material. I bought my ticket right after that interview. Accept the consequence of risk |

I'd give a vital organ to see them play Out of the Ashes, Eyes of Medusa or Sea of Lies.
Wouldn't THAT be cool!

Oh yeah, I was actually thinking about Edge of Forever when I made that post and couldn't remember if it was on Divine Wings or Damnation Game.

God, yes. V is such a magnificently great album, it's a shame that it's not more widely acknowledged. "Communion and the Oracle" is my favorite SX song ever.

They have never played "The haunting" live :ī(...thatīs my favourite song by them. I havenīt seen "candlelight fantasia" being played live either.
I think Russell will stop growling as soon the bands stops pretending to be heavier it actually is. SyX is quite heavy already, more so than other prog bands (DT, Iīm looking at you), but I really appreciate their more progressive sounds. Damnation game was a great album, V was also good, DWOT was almost perfect. |
