Dubstep violinist

I think this girl is awesome. I just thought I'd share this in case anyone hasn't heard of her. Her other music is good too, if you like other styles of electronic music.

And if you like this, you should also check out Michael Shulman. He's an electric violinist who plays a variety of styles, including electronic music.

I love Lindsey. I've been following her for a while now. And she DOES look like Lily Aldrin haha I saw that since the first day I saw her in a video. She's ridiculously cute, and I find her strange dance moves mesmerizing as all hell.

About this new song, though, I find it her weakest piece so far. It just sounds weird. It's not bad; just less good . "Shadows" (specially with the video on) and "Spontaneous Me" are definitely my favorites so far! And her Zelda medley is pretty great as well. I love this woman

Do any other classical musicians find stuff like this annoying as ....? To me its incredibly pretentious, gimmicky, and flat out stupid.

I'm all for bowed instruments finding their way out to other forms of music, but this isn't innovative or progressive at all. Most string players I know, even back from high school, could improv melodies like this without even trying. She's not even playing anything that is remotely close to being technically demanding or musically insightful by professional violinist standards.

Honestly, if somebody wants to make dubstep beats for me, I can record an entire cello/dubstep album in one day...its all just elementary vibrato and legato, and staying in key.

To me this is just a quick, easy gimmick to grab the attention of musically uneducated dubstep fans using the beauty of the violins tone.

^ The way I see it, Thep, what you just described is EXACTLY why I like her, but looked at from a different perspective.

I love the extreme simplicity of her music. It's just catchy music that puts me in the mood, while still not being (to me, at least) flat out retarded. This is super easy to digest, so it got me from the first time. She just seems to be having fun and enjoying it all the time, and that's very contagious. To me, it doesn't seem as though she's trying to be innovative. In fact, it isn't innovative at all. There are other artists who do it (Vanessa Mae). I feel that her music is a huge breath of fresh air after all the complicated stuff that I regularly listen to.

With that said, I can 100% see why a lot of people wouldn't like this, to the point of finding it annoying and/or stupid. I guess it just kinda sticks with some people more than others.

Of course, her cuteness and the fact that she's a female geek (doing Zelda medleys, attending Comic-Con anime conventions, and whatnot) does have a huge impact on her popularity .

+1

I may not be a classically trained string player, or even a string player.

But this just sounds like someone playing their violin in a room while someone else plays dubstep.

Of course, I do hate dupstep though...

I facepalmed hard at the "Thumbs up for a violinist playing dubstep". She just plays violin over dubstep, not really impressive, it doesn´t even sound that good.

Nice location for a video.

Cute violinist.

Not untasteful playing.

A few BWOWWWWs added to backing track ostensibly for the sole purpose of giving the appearance of a crossover track and evince reactions of, "hey guys- see how sophisticated dubstep is!!!111!1!"

There's no indication that it's supposed to be complex, it doesn't have to be. There's beauty in simplicity.

EDIT-
I agree that that location is gorgeous for a video.

Every location she's chosen for a video so far has been breathtakingly beautiful. However, the ice castles take the cake. I do admit, though, that I was a bit disappointed when I learned that they're man-made ...

I agree with the sentiment that the dubstep thing might have been too pretentious. I'm not a fan of dubstep myself, but even I could tell that that was just a silly "slightly-dubstep" loop in the background. It's the only song/video of hers for which I've seen strong criticism, so maybe (hopefully) she'll take the hint . She's only getting started on her musical career, so I'm curious to see where she goes to with it.

lol hey she does, I didn't even notice that.

I like classical violin also and I normally listen to more technical music, so I like to mix it up a little with more simplistic music sometimes. I think her songs are catchy and she's a good performer and I like a lot of types of electronic music, so she appeals to me. And as previously stated, her looks don't hurt either lol. There are others doing similar things and they're good too, but she has her own appeal and it's cool how in touch with her fans she is and how much material she puts out.

I'm surprised at the amount of people who don't like dubstep who commented. The thread is titled "Dubstep violinist", what exactly were they expecting to find?

It sounds good, but that being said it seems to be lacking a theme of any sort. It sounds more like a backing track to a movie, easily forgettable.

I see where you're coming from.

but if she's going be "shredding" and playing those quick arpeggios, I see that as a display of either technical performance or musical statement. And anybody who has experience with the violin knows it was neither.

I'm really not trying to troll or anything, just replying.

meh, I wonder if people would find this interesting at all if she wasn't a cute girl shaking her ass and doing high kicks in tights.

seems like barely average dubstep with violin played over top of it.

I liked it and I don't find her attractive at all

To be fair though, I didn't click it with the expectation of finding something ridiculously complex, the tone of her violin and the simple, yet flowing melodies she was producing were enough to get me to enjoy it.

I listen to baroque/classical music if I'm looking for depth, I don't know about you guys, but I don't find myself marveling over how complex a dubstep track is...different expectations for different genres

I didn't mention anything about it having to be complex in any way, it just isn't my cup of tea.
