Wow, what a whiny douchenozzle. .... him, the world of music is better off without him.
Seriously, FOB have some catchy songs and he has a pretty good voice, but I'll quote one of the rules on this site and apply it to music in general: Quote:

Wait, don't people write music for their own enjoyment?
If I wrote music, it would be music that I liked, and I wouldn't give a damn what anyone else thought. Oh wait, on further reading he appears to be staying in industry to write music, just less performing. I can kinda understand that... But it just appears a bit pathetic :/ |

I don't know about this newer stuff, but I remember hearing songs from that fall out boy debut that was popular and thinking to myself that this guy writes better pop music than just about everyone out at that time.
I think he could have a good career writing hits for other people |

I'm not a fan of their music, but I don't think that it's bad. Alas, regardless of my artistic opinion, it sucks that the guy cracked. I'm sure that having as much exposure as they did and having as much of a fickle fanbase as they had detractors is difficult emotionally. I'd feel discouraged, too, if everybody gave me crap. Quote:

it's actually not that uncommon. that lady from 4 Non-Blondes pulled out of the spotlight and writes for others, she wrote one of Pink's biggest hits. Andy Sturmer of Jellyfish has been writing pop hits for Japanese pop groups for years. A lot of people get tired of being on stage and do this, they just don't release semi-pathetic blog posts like this before doing it.

^Indeed, the reason I reacted to this was his whiny departure, many musicians who does not sell as many records any more (often), starts writing music for others instead.

I'll probably catch some shit for this but i really dig the first 3 Fall Out boy records (Evening out With Your Girlfriend,Take This To Your Grave, and From Under The Cork Tree.) and still jam them in my car from time to time. Patrick has a pretty impresive vocal range and Pete's lyrics have a very Morrisey-esque quality. The other half of the band (Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman) are both pretty talented and draw alot of thier influences from thrash metal like Exodus and Anthrax.
I actually kind of feel bad for Patrick for being the front man for a band that the majority of people only really gave a shit about the bass player who, other than lyrics, did nothing but play the same 4 note minor chord progression for the last 3 albums. I mean wouldn't you be pissed if your were infinately more talented than your bandmate but your were always in thier shadow because of thier outrageous behavior and thier ability to attract female fans? I feel like Fall out Boy is one of those bands that gets written off by alot of people because of thier fan base (14-16 year olds who are "misunderstood"), but in reality deserve alot more respect. And Lets be honest. Talent wise, Fall Out Boy is alot better than the majority of Top 40 pop music today. If you were stranded on an uncharted island for the rest of your life and you could only have a Fall Out Boy album or an album by Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, or who ever else the kids are into these days, the majority of this forum would probably go for the Fall Out Boy album. Their drummer was rather good.
I found the man's voice incessantly annoying, but I didn't hate them or begrudge them their success. If he wants to retire from live performance that's understandable; it can be disheartening playing to people who don't want to listen, and it must be doubly so if they're hating your latest material, wanting you to remain the same rather than progress. ![]() Carpathia : progressive extreme metal from London. I have no sympathy for this guy, he clearly has fans who like him and buy/turn up to his shows... but he chooses to ignore them and listens to those who hate him??

I can see though that if you have a band with a cult following, like these bands have, that you risk being sheltered from critique. Could be that he, even if he has been doing this for ten years, is just too unused to it.
But I dunno

One thing I will applaud him on is not just milking the money he can out of staying in the business. He could just "phone it in" (like a lot of "big draw" artists do) to keep the check coming but he says, essentially, I've got enough to get by and if I go poor, that's cool too.
So, +1 for that. "Can we pull back the veil of static and reach in to the source of all being? Behind this curtain of patterns, this random pattern generator. So clever. Right here in every home, watching us from a one-sided mirror." Argbadh - RHLC© |

I dont know why you all hate him so much. I mean it is cool if you dont like his music, but why all of the insults? When i was in high school I liked fall out boy a lot, and thought they were cool. He clearly states that he is still going to be a songwriter and producer, so it isnt like he is giving up music completely. A real musician doesnt do that. I honestly cant blame him for not wanting to play shows and tour anymore. I am the same way, I love playing music, and I liked playing in a band, but I just have lost all interest in playing shows, and doing that whole thing. If you all of a sudden go out on your own, and you are opening for another band, and the audience isnt there for you, and they are talking shit about you when you are playing, you would definitely not want to play live either.
My main setup: Ibanez uv7bk green dot, Engl fireball 60, genz benz g flex 2x12. |
