It's Steve Vai explaining the reasoning behind a lot of the licks in "Freak Show Excess," my favorite track off Vai's most recent album. There's a part in there that's in 17/16. What a bizarre time signature. Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FV51itmcuA&NR Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfDJt...elated&search= A very interesting video. If you've never heard Freak Show Excess, I recommend you take a listen to Vai's album, "Real Illusions." |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I used to love Friedman b/c of his exotic playing and prebends and vibrato and all that.... but he never took it to the next level.... Vai - holy shit. i thought he took it to the next level in Alive in an Ultra World - but goddamn. he's amazing here. Soooo untouchable. And that tone is just sooooo nice. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Yup. I understand when people say he's too "out" for them, but I have never seen anyone with the complete command of the guitar that he has, not to mention the amazing production and composition on his albums. [/fanboi] |

![]() | Really, I love a bunch of guitar players, music types. Hell I anointed Mastodon the greatest band in America a few months back (which they are, don't start with me )But, seriously, has anyone in the history of the world every had as total mastery over the guitar as Steve Vai? His fingers do what he thinks, and if they don't, he practices until they do. |
