They played that when I saw them at Loud Park. Kind of an unusual band. The lyrics are kind of cheesy, the lead singer isn't really that great, and the guitar tone isn't too good. Other than that, a pretty entertaining band. Overall rating: "so-so."

I've been a Cathedral fan for many years. Carnival Bizarre is awesome, my favorite is "Endtyme" though. I think their guitar tone is pretty cool, good riffs... the only thing that bothers me about the band is the singing is atrocious.

And, I agree with Zimbloth. I think the weakest member of the band is the singer. Some of the songs, I just thought, "If they had a different kind of singer... " When the guitarist played solos, the backing section just seemed so hollow. Just the bass and the drums trying to support that. I guess that's the disadvantage of 1 guitarist bands. Bands like Tool and Sabbath managed to really promote the bass and drums backing and use that to their advantage. Tool's solos just come to life because of that hollow bass and drums background. It really fits the music. Pantera solos worked on some songs lived, but on other songs really really needed that backing guitar (like on Cemetary Gates). |

the singer is actually, if i recall, the only original member. He used to do death metal/grindcore vocals in Napalm Death, and the first Cathedral album was pretty much REALLY REALLY slow death metal, then they progressively turned into a sabbath worship band. i actually like his vocals a lot.i guess its an acquired thing, and yeah, i generally agree that 1 guitar bands dont sound quite as good live as 2 guitar bands.
If i were to suggest an album, i would suggest Forest of Equilibrium for a death metal feel and for the sabbathy feel, get Carnival Bizarre. Also, track 3 on Carnival Bizarre has a guest solo by Tony Iommi. \m/ |
