Botch were such a great and influential band to the Hardcore scene and beyond. I wish that sort of an approach would still be alive in that genre, but it's rare.

Man, I hate beeing nostalgic (because it makes me feel old), but when American Nervoso came out, my mind was blown - that record was a total gamechanger, and later We Are The Romans again took that (at least) one step further.

I've seen them live 2 times...once in 99 or so i think...and again in 2000, with Dillinger Escape Plan. Small club in vienna, PACKED with ~100 people and you could hardly move... One of the most energetic live shows EVER.

I'm with you bro. We are the Romans is still one of my favorite records of all time. Botch and Coalesce set the bar far higher then most bands could jump but even still, bands like Racetraitor, Burn It Down, One King Down ran the trenches. The whole scene at that time was pretty incredible.

Has there seriously not been a thread like this yet!?!?! Wow....

But yeah.

I ....ING LOVE BOTCH!

I'm too young to have seen them live, but I talked to Brian Cook about Botch for like an hour at an Russian Circles show once and he was stoked that I was still so into it!

If you have a minute please check out my most recent EP - TANUKI here:

Any form of support is welcomed and appreciated

Mhmmmm! I never got to see them (I would have been a little kid, and as far as I'm aware they never came to Australia), But they're just amazing! Also, I dig Minus the Bear and Narrows, so it's good to see the members all still making great tunes!

On Hydrahead right? I'm still a fan of Cattlepress. I remember reading a "thanks" to Fredrik thordendal in the "Hordes To Abolish The Divine" in the credits and thinking "Legit". That was back when really nobody was up on Fredrik's Special Defects.

I def get that. Prior to We are the Romans, their angular approach was hard to digest for most. We Are the Romans was def the best of everything they were doing x 100.

Shit, I just realized that you were the guitarrist in Cattlepress... Awesome man, I really don't want to sound like an asskisser or something, but the 12" split with Agoraphobic Nosebleed and Hordes To Abolish The Divine are some of the most EVIL records ever.

I'm very proud to have experienced that time, as it still stands as one of the greatest periods of my life.

I REALLY hope these younger generations will get the chance to experience what we did back then. The innovation, excitement, and emotions that all came along to being present as so many incredible bands were changing the entire metal landscape..

Botch/We Are The Romans, is a prime example of that time, and def a testement to that innovation.

Long live Hydrahead, Escape Artist records, Loudnet, Skylab, Grindcore is Art ect ect haha
