Best NON-Metal albums of 2011?

So I'm racking my brain trying to come up with a top 10 album list for 2011 (Ever Forthright throwing in a last minute kink didn't help), when I've come to the realization: I have no idea what really came out in 2011 outside the Metal genre. The only records I can recall purchasing off the top of my head outside of Metal are from Tech N9ne and Lady Gaga (Techs album was awesome and will make my top 10. Gaga will probably get an honorable mention because, well, The Edge of Glory is just that awesome a track).

So what I'm asking is, what came out in 2011 that was awesome in terms of Jazz? Hip Hop? Pop? Contemporary Classical? Not-Dubstep? I really need a better glimpse of whats happened outside all the.Tesseract and Machine Head and Dream Theater and Corelia and what have you?

Really? For shame! =) Let me see what I can do to help....

Any year with a Decemberists release is a good year, and this song has an awesome video to boot:

Guitar + cello + treacle = Earth. Volume II comes out next year.

Forget that dancefloor R&B shit - if you want the real deal, check out Meshell Ndegeocello. Sexy tune from a sexy and complex album.

Paul Simon's new album is his best in twenty years. How can you pass that up?

TOM WAITS, ............!

The new Tori Amos record is a concept album, so any individual song is sorta out-of-context, but this one carries the character of the album pretty well.

Stonegaze! Also: the longest album title of the year, at least out of my collection.

And finally, a meeting of the masters: Tony Levin, David Torn, Alan White.

Go forth enlightened, grasshopper.

If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you.
If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.
-The Gospel of Thomas

Melody is the outpouring of the soul. Words interrupt the stream of the emotions.
For the songs of the souls, at the time they are swaying in the high regions to drink from the well of the Almighty,
consist of tones only, dismantled of words.
-Rabbi Shneur Zalman

There are 3 records that come to mind:

Vena - Nomadic
Prön Flävürdik - Opus 3: The Motown Years
Owlfood - Owlfood

All released on the excellent Paradigms Recordings label.

I am surprised how few fusion albums seem to be favored here.I always thought that was a natural genre for guitarists in metal who were technically oriented

Were there some good fusion releases in 2011? Apart from the Levin Torn White disc I mentioned, which is arguably fusion, I'm not really aware of any, but I haven't paid a lot of attention either. (Maybe because I'm not a technically-oriented metal guitarist? *shrug*)
