Good for them they are where they are, I couldnt care less about that, but its the fact that parade themselves as uber-talented musicians, that are simpily better than everyone else.

Id like see them actually compete for their "rightful" places

Meh, when it comes down to it, you just don't like it. It irritates me when someone tries to make it a point to say a band sucks because of sloppiness or egos.

You gotta like the band's music, not the band. If you let the band members actions get in the way of it, your just missing out when you don't really have to.

Cant stand their music either though, and whenever I do listen to it, which i seldom do, I cant help but think about the band members, especially when the guitar solo comes up. Now I never said the band sucked just the guitarists, if they were replaced by competent/talented players who still knew how to party and ect... then I would probably be a fan.

I mean, look at Petrucci his music is amazing, has way more talent than these guys, but he does not brag nor act cocky about his playing.

Don't you think though that if you're writing music, that you should think that it's the best and be proud of what you do? If you didn't think that, wouldn't that mean that you don't really believe in what you are doing and you were faking it? Why would you write music that you think sucks and was sub-standard? Unless you were only writing it to get famous/cash/bitches etc etc and let's be honest, ain't nobody making that much money off metal apart from Sharon Osbourne.

Well, I can see everyones opinions in this thread, i can see why people get riled about them, but personally I have what i would call a 'morbid fascination' with them. I saw them at Donnington this year and found it really refreshing, there definitely hadn't been a band like that on a Donnington stage for about 12-15 years. Yes, it's cheesey as hell but it made me laugh, and the only other artist that managed to get that reaction out of me was Devin Townsend.

I never bashed the music itself, I don't mind the cheesiness either(I'm an 80's guy) its the players(guitarists) attitude i dont like, like i said before I dont see why they proclaim themselves as being some of the most talented musicians in the world, when there obviously very sloppy(the guitarists not the other members of the band.) If you read all the posts in this thread you'll see the concensus.

Love them, hate them, love to hate them, we ARE talking about them above 1000's of other musicians out there, and if that inspires one person who doesn't really know who they are to go and check them out then it's worked in their favour, I suppose.

Not really, I learned about them, and now i just discard them, now that I know what I know, I wont have to think about them again, Its good to keep a profile on a wide variety of musicians, if you were to just ignore them overall, and not form educated opinions on them, you would be ignorant, and I try not to be as ignorant as I can(its a tough job i tells ya )

Not you, the other 2 in this thread.You didnt strike me as a fanboy, but more or less someone who appreciates their music which is fine, I respect that, but just dont go around saying Herman li is an amazing guitarist who is better than everyone
