Scott Walker, on his most recent album The Drift.
Scott is an awesome singer, but on this album he seems to be experimenting with a new style of music that takes complete disregard for conventional harmony as a starting point. It's ....ing weird, but I think I like it

I guess it depends what you consider "experimental". I don't like pure-noise stuff so much; I prefer music with some semblance of rhythm. Possibly as a result of this, the experimental guys I like tend to be loopers. David Torn is my go-to guy for advanced looping: check out *What Means Solid, Traveller?* for his solo work, and *Prezens* for looping-with-a-band. Andre LaFosse has also done some really excellent looping work: his last album *Normalized* is basically a dance music record created with a guitar, a looper, and a little post-processing, but take a look on his "Echoplex Analysis Pages" website for samples of his experiments that led up to the record, some of which are considerably more abstract. [EDIT: http://www.altruistmusic.com/glitch.html]
"There's only one real freedom in music: freedom from the tyranny of trying to sound good." -Kenny Werner "Whatever technique you have on your instrument at any given time is always good enough to say something. If you can't find the thing to say, that's what you've got to work on." -David Torn "Don't be afraid to let go of the things you know. Defy your weaker, safer self. Create. Make music." -Sonny Sharrock "Do your thing. Follow your heart." -David Fiuczynski |

Yes, this. Drone/noise/shoegaze goodness.
And, of course: This isn't the full track, but it's one of my favorites of theirs: |

People mention Fantomas, but no love for the band that made Patton (along with FNM) on the map, Mr Bungle?
And also want to push the Quebec's band Unexpect, brillant Experimental Metal: |
