That's truly horrible. they've taken all of the amazing movement and brilliant counterpoints out of the supporting instruments and just swung the whole lot

That is quite bad, not only because of it just not working as a swing number (though it's still better than the awful 70's disco version I once had the misfortune to hear) but some of the playing isn't that great. There's a very obvious split note from one of the trumpeters near the start and when the violins take over the lead it just sounds sloppy.

Btw, did James Last actual conduct any of that, or did he just dance about at the front?
