Martyr Appreciation

I know there has gotta be some huge Martyr fans in here. They are one of the most brilliant tech death bands of all time. Awesome riff after awesome riff. Just killer guitarwork out the ass. The vocals turn some off, and if that's you then just keep listening, it will be worth it once you get used to them. They have tab books too, so buy that shit if you wanna tackle these songs.

If they would hire a different vocalist they would instantly jump to the top of my tech death list. They have some of the baddest riffing/solos in this genre but they top it off with probably the worst vocal combo accompanied by absolutely retarded lyrics.
Has anyone seen the DVD they put out a while back that has the behind the scenes videos of them recording Feeding the Abscess? They are going over lyrics, it is hilarious.

When i first listened to Feeding the Abscess i was blown away, the songs were song complex yet so well orchestrated. I like all their albums but i honestly think they had a huge improvement from Hopeless Hopes(also in terms of production). I always thought that the vocals were great, maybe it's just me

yeah I've always liked the vocals too. more thrashy than usual for the genre, but very enjoyable. as for the lyrics, I'm sure those guys are french speakers so they can't be that great, but I've never really noticed them too much.

I'm so happy for Dan that his dream has come true and that he's playing in Voivod replacing his idol Piggy. I can't imagine how awesome it feels for someone to take the place of their idol and tour around the world with a band they were hugely influenced by growing up.

Well, there's lots of retarded lyrics in this genre - and the more thrashy vocals actually appeal to me, since it's not just some pointless grunting, unlike most of the bands in this style.
