It was so awesome, Festival Hall is a sick as place for a metal fest like this. I met up with my mate James at Metal Mayhem. He had our tickets, we grabbed a bit of pizza, then headed straight to the venue where we sat outside for a little while until some of James' mates arrived who were cool as dudes!
While we were standing outside the gate waiting, we could her Dave Mustaine is sound check, fuck yeah! When we got inside we met up with Mark A and his mate Jesse, they came kinda late and missed some of Arch Enemy's set.On to the show, CALIBAN were up first. The place wasn't even half full when they were playing so not much was happening. They were ok I guess, their set was pretty short and I'm not familiar with them at all but it was kinda cool just to watch 'em play n shit. After their set before Arch Enemy came on they were doing a signing and stuff, I didn't go over. Next was ARCH FUCKING ENEMY! They were so brutal. They opened with "Nemesis" which is a pretty fast and brutal song. They are amazing live! They play everything perfectly and even more intense than on the album! And the guitarist who took Chris Amott's place was rippin. He nailed the solos. They played Nemesis, Dead Eyes See No Future, We Will Rise, Ravenous, Dead Bury Their Dead, Enemy Within, and some other songs that I didn't recognise, but were still really awesome. SOULFLY were pretty good. I haven't listened to a lot of their stuff but they were sick as to watch live and the place went insane for them which was cool as. They played Prophecy, Roots Bloody Roots and those were the only song I knew. Their guitarist (dunno his name) was pretty impressive, he was doin' some shredding which was clean as hell, he seems like a skilled player. MEGADETH were last, there was a 20 or so minute break between each band, at the end of the 20 mins between Soulfly and Megadeth they started to lower the Megadeth banner and the whole place just started screaming! I've always been a big Megadeth fan, but seeing these dudes live has made me like them twice as much! Their lead guitarist was really good. He played the Marty Freidman solos really clean and got the phrasing down! He also played some fuckin nice guitars throughout the show. They played In My Darkest Hour, Hangar 18, Holy Wars , Peace Sells, Symphony of Destruction and a bunch more brutal songs that I didn't know. They got an encore, the stands were rumbling and everyone was chanting "Megadeth!". They came back on and played Holy Wars which fuckin rocked! ![]() I didn't buy any merch because I didn't bring enough money with me. But as we were walking back to the train station after the show we came across some dude selling shirts on the corner for $10, but I didn't have even that so yeh.... But James bought one from him, and then when he got home, he tells me later on that he noticed something odd about his Gigantour shirt. It had Arch Enemy, Soulfly, Caliban and MegaDEATH! ![]() And us Aussies have been informed that Gigantour is coming back in 2007! I'll be 18 for that one! ![]() Over all, Gigantour was the best night of my life!!! \m/ >_< \m/ |

Megadeth's setlist there sounds pretty similar to the one they played at Loud Park... except they played better songs at Loud Park.
Tornado of Souls, Take No Prisoners, Hangar 18, Holy Wars, Peace Sells, Wake Up Dead, Liar, Symphony Of Destruction, Devils Island, Set The World Afire, etc. etc. Damn good show. I also thought the lead guitarist did a good job with Friedman's solos. Arch Enemy sure is crazy live. And they play everything almost perfect, which is coo'. |

Speaking of the "lead guitarist," they have an interview with Glen Drover on ESP's site and it's pretty cool...there's one with Amott too and some other guys but those are boring.: http://espguitars.com/artists_interviews.html

I laughed so hard, some loser on Blabbermouth called Arch Enemy "mallcore". Arch Enemy is about as pure metal as you can get.

How the hell could you forget to mention Tornado of Souls in your post? That's like Megadeth's greatest song ever?!
I'm beginning to doubt your sanity, son. |
