Exclamation Mod your own pedals

http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp...Modify-FX.html

I used to post mods for Boss ds-1's and write FAQ's in the past about working with music electronics at other forums. But it got to fustrating because it stomped on a lot of guys who were overcharging to do the work for others. I wonder how Keeley feels about this book?
Most pedal mods cost no more than 4 bucks for parts and take less than a half an hour if you know what your doing.

The 'Keeley' mods for DS-1 and SD-1 can be found here:

Also check out http://www.buildyourownclone.com/ for complete kits to build some well-known pedals.

Yeah, being an EE too, I always felt Keeley, and guys in that do those mods seriously overcharge. I've got most schematics for stock pedals and some of their mods, and it's never cost more than a few bucks for the components.

It pisses me off that even FUZZCENTRAL is now charging for this mod sheet!! Everyone seems in it for the almighty buck...sheesh..

Still 50$ is a hefty price for that book though. I would pay a max of 30$ for something like that. Simply because some guy took the time to gather the information and work of others, doesn't warrant 50$ per book.

I've heard that a $40 Digitech Bad Monkey outperforms the modded SD-1's anybody know if this is true?

I'm no EE, but as a lifelong computer/electronics/radio geek I know my way around a soldering iron, and I know what you mean about overcharging.

However, people seem more than willing to pay the prices they ask, so more power to 'em.

I have a Tech+ ham radio license, figure I'll take the test for Extra class this summer since they removed the higher speed Morse requirements.

I'm not really active, although sometimes I chat on the local 2m repeaters.

I wasn't much of a talker and never got a Ham certification. There was quite an antenna farm on my roof for a while though! I did manage to accumulate a small collecotin of QSL's both MW and SW..

Thumbs up I agree that it is easier than most people think..

I am not an EE, but I have used a soldering Iron, and I modded my own $25 Ibanez TS-5 Soundtank Tube Screamer to make it have basically the same circut as the TS-808. Total cost in parts was about $15. Total time was about 30min. It sounds amazing. I still can't beleive folks pay either $300 for an original 808 or over $100 to have thier TS-8 or TS-9 modded.
