We have quad tracked guitars re-amped with multiple amps to get that super "heavy" sound .....The list goes on ..........It's all about deception regardless of what genre you are in.

It's music and it is completely subjective, that's why music is so awesome. I will take Katy Perry and her lovely bouncing tits over about 80% of the lame shit that is coming out claiming to be metal these days.
So you're saying that production is the same as having (basically) a stripper in the band? I think this is completely off. If you take your example of metal: sure, you want to maximize what you have by multi-tracking guitars and so forth. But you're still within the realm of music. I'm not saying programming drums to inhuman capabilities is necessarily what I'm going for but at least there's some creativity going on there in the same way as electronic music. Also, a lot of guys use that stuff but only because they don't have a drummer to record it or they want a super clean demo to portray an idea - and they don't go around telling people it was a real drummer anyways.

If I go to a show, the band plays their stuff for better or worse. Yeah, sometimes you get disappointed because they may be another studio force but it's people playing music. They're not randomly strumming with a backing track playing in the background to cover it up.

What Perry - and soo many others nowdays - are doing is selling t&a and calling it music instead of a strip show. That's what I have a problem with (she'd be an awesome stripper). There's blatant dishonesty in this. People realize that sex sells in any domain and so companies push it in every domain. Selling it in music has the same effects but removes the stigma of it being "bad" as it supposedly is in porn or strip clubs form.

I'm definitely not against sex (me likey) but it does cheapen music as a whole. On top of that, it's ungodly annoying when people don't see it because there are people out there who work their ass off playing shows every week and the only thing she's ever done was shake her tits around. It's basically telling all the real musicians to go .... themselves if you include her in the group.

Music is subjective, but what I'm talking about isn't music - it's the label's business strategy. I'm not saying I can't be wrong here but I just can't read the situation any other way anymore. (This is also the reason why I feel justified posting this in a appreciation thread. I'm all for appreciating the shit out of her in my head but once we bring music in the picture its another story).

I find her music a bit meh tbh. E.T. really didn't work for me, and none of her singles have. My sister has just started liking her a lot, but I don't get it. Yes, she writes catchy songs, but I find her voice to be a bit bland. Maybe it's just too pop-y for me

Jessie J on the other hand... Great voice, and actually sings songs that have a meaning behind them.

Her tits are great however

You are implying that everyone who listens to her......saw her image before ever actually checking out her music. Which I imagine isn't the case. As someone else stated.....if your in it just to look at her, there are far hotter chicks who take off a lot more clothes.

Here is my story on Katy Perry...
I spent a week car pooling with my friend, switching off every other day, and he listened to a bunch of radio garbage, most of which I could not stand. But there were a coupld songs that I came to love, not knowing who they were by. They just happened to be California Gurls and I Kissed A Girl. After some time my wife played E.T. (my wife has a great taste in music, she got me into Veil Of Maya, Whitechapel, and most of the indie stuff I listen to) for me and then I made all the connections. Then I discovered I was madly in love with Katy Perry. I honestly find her music so catchy and totally not annoying like most pop music out there. By the way, if my wife ever divorces me, I am marrying Katy.

Oh, this old thread. Had forgotten about it, not about Katy though.

I'll just leave this here.

I don't get the video though. It's like, he goes away to paint, then she also wants to paint but can't decide what, he gets pissed off because he doesn't want her using his canvas and takes her arm and proceeds to make some shitty lines while looking like a total asshole. Then, she gets mad and throws red paint at his painting, and then he's flippin' tables.
So with that conclusion, isn't the dude the bitch here?

My cover band plays her "Friday Night" song. It sucks to play because it's only 4 chords in the same order from beginning to end. But I do like some of her songs that aren't so boring. Girls love when we play Katy Perry at gigs though.

Seriously, gtfo

I just need to say something to the dude that negged me. I'm not whining, just making this clear.

This is NOT a metal-oriented forum. Look around in every single section and you will see threads about everything from pop to ....-my-fetus-in-the-eye-core.

Saying that this is a metal oriented forum is just downright stupid. Just because it's mainly for sevenstrings doesn't mean it's for metal only. I barely play any metal on my 7, and I know a ton of people here don't too.

Ofc saying its a metal-ISH forum is ok but seriously. Pls don't neg rep a guy posting music to a thread. Neg rep me instead or something...

On topic, I loved the song even though it wasn't as great as most of Teenage Dream album. Really diggin POP nowadays and Perry is definitely one of my favorites

its funny, my 16/17 year old self would call me a poser bitch now. i enjoy listening to pop music, i listen to lots of hip hop, classical, jazz. ffs, i watch American idol, one of the most entertaining hows on TV and I'm not even American!

I just realize, the older i get the less shits I give, i just listen to what i find enjoyable for whatever reason. I have no need to justify my taste in music to anyone. Plus, most of my friends don't even like metal and I go to shows alone most of the time.

back on topic, ive been in love with her from the first time i saw her videos. some of her songs are horrible while others are pretty good. her voice isnt bad, but i admit, sex sells. still its far better than that horrible garbage that lady gaga is releasing!
