Satriani is my biggest influence by miles. I still consider him my favorite even though I admit I have been kindof disappointed by his last few releases.

Other faves: Kiko Loureiro, Frank Zappa, Paul Antonio Ortiz (aka Chimp Spanner), Bumblefoot.

Lots of other people I really admire (for example Paul Wardingham is pretty badass) but it is too early to call them favorites at this point....

Is it a right to remain ignorant? I don't know, but I refuse to find out!

Popular (last 10 years of exposure) Choices:

Tosin Abasi
John Petrucci
Chuck Schuldiner
Bulb
Chimp Spanner
Michael Romeo
Paul Wardingham
Jeff Loomis
Marty Friedman
Per Nilsson

Honest (forced to tell the truth at gunpoint even if it means revealing old school tastes )Choices:

Uli Jon Roth
John Sykes
Michael Schenker
Chris Poland
Jason Becker
Shawn Lane
Alex Masi
Rusty Cooley (perhaps not musically)
Stephan Forte
Adrian Smith
Yngwie Malmsteen

There are tons more I listen to infrequently but still enjoy.....the above is pretty representative however

While raping a bear in Yellowstone and snorting coke out of a freshly-dead baby's skull, I finally felt that I had found my calling and built a time machine out of Iraqi WMDs and LOTS OF HEMP WHOA. Using this time machine I went back in time and shot JFK from outer ....ing space. I am now your god - Jeff

Prokofiev

Jonas Bryssling

Shostakovich

Fredrik Schälin

Each one of those has done more for the overall "state of the art," literally speaking, than most of the (very competent) people that are jizzed all over on this board, no offense to them.

Obviously gotta be the Meshuggah boys. They completely ....ed my mind up. Despite all the 'djent' bands to have come out, few of them grab me like those guys do.

Chimp Spanner (Paul Ortiz) is abit of a hero for me not just because of his music, but the fact he does it all himself and to such a high standard. Seen him live a couple times now and he's brilliant. Deserves all the success he gets.

Mastodon, because they sound so raw and yet beautiful. Brent Hinds in particular is a brilliant guitarist and I love how he uses his hybrid picking to do insane solos.

John Browne of Monuments/Fellsilent for the fact he writes such insane technical shit without being too spazzy. He grooves like a madman.

Shaun Morgan of Seether because he is a brilliant frontman and writes songs that are heavy and melodic. There are barely any Seether songs I don't like, though I'm still to get the new album.

My biggest non-metal influence is John Butler. He got me into using 12 string guitars and open C tuning. He is a brilliant guitarist, vocalist and live he is incredible. Really cool guy.

I could go on and on. A few other main ones are Dino Cazares (Fear Factory, Divine Heresy, Asesino) , Adam Jones (Tool), Devin Townsend, Mark Morton and Willie Adler (Lamb of God), Travis Montgomery (Threat Signal, Nociceptor), Wes Borland, Drop (Sybreed), Greg Tribbet (Mudvayne, Hellyeah).

Mike Holmes from IQ has a style that really appeals to me, kind of wavey
Also growing up I would have to acknowledge Satch and Vai as big influences. Most recently I have been digging Tosin's playing for 7 and 8 string stuff.
