Rush: 'Presto'

Picked this album up at the charity shop on Tuesday and listened to it for the first time...goddamn, this album is great!
A lot of people tend to dislike Rush's later stuff, i.e. everything post 'Permenant Waves', but this album rocks all the way through. Alex Lifeson is easily one of the best rhythm players on the planet, and there's some really cool, fluid solos on it. The guitar tones are great throughout, and have got me GASing for a twelve string again...

Thoughts?

Dreaming in infared...

I like every album by Rush... even the "crappier" ones, and this was a good album, mostly because it switched from their ultra synth-heavy sound back to their older sound in a way. It's nothing too special, though.

I LOVE EVERYTHING THEY'VE DONE, & REALLY LATCHED ON TO THE STUFF THEY DID IN THEIR "MIDI ERA".

SOME DON'T REALLY KNOW, BUT SIGNALS WAS THE VERY 1ST DIGITALLY RECORDED RECORD, EVER. RUSH WERE DOING MIDI TYPE OF STUFF BEFORE THERE WAS MIDI.

SIGNALS, PRESTO, POWER WINDOWS, ARE ALL AWESOME ALBUMS.

IF YOU DIG THIS ERA, THEN YOU WOULD ALSO DIG THE BAND, SAGA.

One of my favourite bands!
Their live concert videos like 'A Show of Hands' and 'Rio' give me goosebumps.
Saw them for the first time on the Presto tour.
total prog bliss

I like Presto too, but I would say the early 80's albums would be my favorite era of the band. Still to this day though Rush is one of my top bands.

they are a bands band...most of the time only musicians dig em'...they fall into the same notch as Dream theater most people do not like them but musicians do. which is fine by me i love RUSH... I even got a Hughes & Kettner Triamp to get some of Alex Lifeson's tones...

Not true. There were digitally recorded albums at least two years before Signals--mostly classical music.

Presto was the last Rush album that was great all the way through. Their albums since then have had good tracks here and there, but Presto was fantastic. I agree that it was a nice return to a guitar-dominated sound and really allowed Lifeson to show off the variety of tones he was capable of.
