Djenty metal without all the screaming?
can anyone help me find some djenty metal that isn't overflowing with screaming and growls? i don't mind it much but too much of it just gets annoying after a while.

I think it's harder to find djent without annoying clean vocals, but there is a lot out there.
besides that, just look around on soundcloud for a while. Search "djent" and you'll find plenty of good stuff. EDIT: Djent is best left either instrumental or with growls/screams. Unless they're dissonant, I really dislike clean vocals over djent. AAL is awesome for that, but should be pretty obvious... EDIT+: I think Meshuggah should do more instrumentals or Thordendal should do a solo album. |

Thordendal has done a solo album, and is coming out with another one this year.
Don't take anything I say here personally, I'm just here to talk about guitars while I'm not watching Brazzers.

![]() Tesseract are one example, Circles have a really good vocalist who does a lot of singing don't think I've heard him do much screaming. Oh yeah, there was a decent amount of screaming on sol Niger within, but there are a lot of inistrumental tracks iirc

I was thinking this the other day. Even with the more 'screamy' vocals, the Periphery tune I checked on YouTube the other day didn't quite convince me, though I might persist.
I also checked a couple of Cloudkicker tunes. I like the sound, but both being in the same key and starting in a similar way, the only real change seemed to me to be rhythmic. That'd be classed as a remix in the dance/electronica world- not a different tune! I liked the sound of Vildharta and the instrumentation of it- until the vocals came in! I'm starting to wonder if the whole Djent thing is being blown up too much as a genre, rather than just the odd tune. But it's early days yet (please don't shoot me down for that! It's first impressions!).

I'm quite the opposite. I can't get into most "djenty" stuff without growls. Hardcore screams don't quite do it either. It's gotta be good ol' Jens or just good DM style vocals for me. I like other stuff with cleaner vocals, but not in Djonk/Djent/Thwank/BwwooooOOOoooow.

I don't really listen to recent metal precisely because of the current fashion for screaming and growling. Screaming vocalists make me think that either they're fixated on some adolescent notion that this somehow conveys more emotion, or they just never learned to sing properly. Growling vocalists always make me want to administer the Heimlich to remove whatever foreign object they've got lodged in their throats. I make the occasional exception for otherwise extremely talented bands (Isis, and recently Meshuggah), but avoid it otherwise. So: thanks for other suggestions!
