Versailles:
YouTube - Versailles Ascended Master
This is an older song that I really liked from these guys, and recently started checking out the guitar work. I have VERY limited exposure to this band, but I was completely blown away by this. (This kind of post has come back to hit me in the face before with people saying "eh". Ouch...) Still, I'm bored as shit, here's a conversation starter, someone say somethin. |

I dig the music and their bizarro Victorian-countess-vampire-pirate chick outfits
![]() But I really wish they had a better singer. |

I really like Kamijo's voice, for the most part.
![]() He definitely sounds best in his lower register though, imo - such as in Aristocrat's Symphony. Lately he's been going higher a lot, and it's a bit strained. |

You know, I was thinking that this would sound SO epic as a melodic death metal band...throw in a really good screamer (maybe along the lines of Jester Race) and you'd have the only memorable melodic death metal band from japan, unless I'm missing any others.

very epic. haha they do hella good screaming in a lot of their songs...Zombies was another great one. I like them as is, if they had a screamer they wouldn't be Versailles, but I would like to see Japan produce a few more melodic death metal bands just for good measure...

Nooooooo not growls!
![]() I meant more epic power metal vocals to go with the epic music - like Stratovarius, Angra, etc. |

I like mixing vocal styles like bass, tenor, alto, soprano - that's about it
![]() The Versailles guy pretty much chills in a small baritone range and never sounds terribly excited to me. It works but someone more dynamic would really bring them over the top to equal the best power metal acts like Rhapsody. |

What about something along the lines of Protest the Hero? (I think I saw you posting in one of my discussions about them)

I like their current vocalist.
I think mixing their music with vocals like Protest the Hero would sound as bad as if they decided to switch the main vocal style to growls.

Yeah they're the only -core-ish band I can deal with but it's mainly because of the instrumental stuff (similar to Versailles). The PtH guy can sing, I just don't dig the current trend of the slightly thin/whiny/nasally tone of all clean singing in nearly every modern rock/metal band outside of power metal and Warrel Dane. The screamy stuff I do my best to tune out, just not my thing
![]() Versailles doesn't strike me as particularly aggressive 99% of the time anyway, seems like it would be weird to have vocals like that. I basically think they should dig up Dio and have him sing. |

One of my students is hinting that I should dress up as Hizaki for shows. Not gonna happen.
![]() Plus both Hizaki and Teru play circles around me. ![]() Yeah, but Galneryus is already doing that. http://www.cracked.com/article_15231_7-reasons-21st-century-making-you-miserable.html http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-...better-person/ http://www.cracked.com/article_18817_5-reasons-future-will-be-ruled-by-b.s..html http://www.cracked.com/article_15663_10-things-christians-atheists-can-must-agree-on.html http://www.cracked.com/article_14990...keysphere.html http://www.cracked.com/article_19468...you-think.html |
