What are your favourite solos?
Not necessarily metal, just your favourites.
Here are mine: The solo comes in at 5:18-ish. If I had to pick just one solo as an all-time favourite it would be this. Ron Jarzombek just slays on this track, everything about it is amazing IMO. This one is at 3:17. It caused me months and months of pain trying to work it out but I finally got it, I have a version on YouTube but it's nowhere near the original... this guy is 21 or 22 now so just imagine how good he'll be when he's 35 or whatever. He could be one of the next guitar heroes in metal I think. At 2:50 ish. Pat Metheny is simply brilliant on this. A long solo that really develops and builds. At 1:51. Not metal at all but it's fantastic. Both the guitarists just make the notes scream. So much feel and technically great as well. At 4:15. I also covered this on YouTube but my version pales into nothing compared to the towering majesty of the original. JP is god. At exactly 10 minutes. Three minutes of pure beauty, one of John Petrucci's all-time best solos. The bit from 10:45 in particular just sounds effortless. So... over to you! Post favourites, whatever genre or how embarrassing they might be.

Nothing else matters- Hetfield's solo just has so much soul an power behind it.
Fade to black- kirks solo in the end is just awesome imo it also may be that i love these two solos just because i can't stop listening to these songs right now, just really into the more mellow stuff as of the moment |

A solo I've really been liking lately is Obscura's 'Cosmogenesis' - I can't decide whether or not I like this album but this song has an awesome solo:
2:35 Jeff Loomis' 'Devil Theory'.

Everyone is on solo on this one, a nice musical weaving and bobbing that never falls apart. Live it is really tight too, they don't loose it. ever. Guitar techs are for sissies. Learn some damn music theory, don't complain, and you'll be a better person. -Schecterwhore Show me a truly awesome guitar for under $1000 and I'll show you hateful lies. |

Generally don't give a damn about solos but I still like a good one when I hear it.
The solos in Sultans of Swing are awesome, as is the lead work in Long Time/Foreplay by Boston. The solo in Invisible Control by Decapitated sounds like every volcano on the planet erupting and enveloping the world in fiery doom. The savage rhythm guitar compliments the solo PERFECTLY. It sounds like an endless rain of liquefied rock. The solo starts at 3:53 with Vogg's signature bends, then ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE at 4:09. I LOVE THIS SOLO/RHYTHM GUITAR SO MUCH. This is how rhythm and lead guitar interact. Let alone the ....ing tremendous drumming. R.I.P. Vitek maintains the intensity so well. This is probably one of the more brutal songs ever written. Definitely my favorite Decapitated tune. So yeah Vogg is a lead player who I like, and Michael Keene writes some actual memorable solos so he gets my credit for sure. |

One solo I've enjoyed quite a bit lately is the second solo from "Home" by Pain of Salvation:
Solo happens at about 4:40 Just so tasteful. |
