Any Admiral Angry fans?

These guys put out only one album and an EP made up of one song, their leader/guitarist apparently had some chronic disease that he died from recently, very tragic, very young dude, and they decided to not go on without him.

I see some people on last.fm calling it Nu Metal, but it totally isn't.

It's sludgy doom metal with tortured vocals and a really djenty guitar tone, which is what separates them from most sludge bands.

It's kinda like Khanate meets Helmet, very cool stuff.

Very cool band. I have both of their records and the associated band Black Sheep Wall's record featuring shared band members.

Khanate meets Helmet is an interesting summation, good call on that.

Hey look out! It's an opinion! WTF?!?

I can dig some Admiral Angry.

But please don't use the term "djent" when discussing sludge/doom.

I don't know about "djent", but if you're not hearing the Meshuggah influence in there, you're friggen' deaf.

Saying a band has a Meshuggah influence is one thing. Saying it's a djenty guitar tone is another.

What I meant was when you're talking about sludge, you shouldn't use the term "djent". It hurts sludge's feelings.

Dude, the sludge/stoner thing is just as as overblown right now as djent is, just not around these parts (i.e. ss.org / interwebs). I can't tell you how many unquestionably metal guys I've run into that haven't even heard of djent, Meshuggah, SikTh, Periphery, or whatever, that are all (nine times out of ten with PBR in hand): "Dude, The ....in' Sword are the best!" Blue Tusk this, Silver Fang that. There's just as many dogshit clonie bands making a run on that stuff now as the djenters. I'd reckon the same 10% - 15% of them are worth listening too as well.

I just hate the term djent. A lot.

Now doom/sludge/stoner bands on the other hand. Much better.

these guys have a guitar/bass tone that is not typical for doom/sludge bands, and leans a little towards that meshuggah-like tone. It's not exactly that, but it's definately not your average les paul, hyper fuzz, vintage marshall tone that most doom bands have.

I also agree that doom/sludge is just as played out as djent. every band with vintage amps, large beards and residence in georgia is getting signed these days it seems, whether they have something interesting to offer or not.

The only "modern" band I can stand is Bongripper.

That 420 pedal wouldn't work for me. I don't touch the drugs, but I do love me some stoner riffs. Hyper Fuzz is the pedal.
