Haha, thanks mate. You know, it's kinda funny how people cannot appreciate things they're familiar with. Here in Poland and many other countries poeple love the sound of bagpipes, pobably because they sound quite exotic to them. Isn't that funny that best Scottish folklore/music inspired metal bands that use bagpipes are form Germany (Suidakra) and Argentina (Skiltron), while none exist in Scotland (as far as I'm aware anyway)?

Mind you, I'm not criticising you, I'm just like that, too. For example, the only instrument that I really have a hard time appreciating is the accordion, and it's probably because my grandad used to play it when I was a wee boy... So I kind of became TOO familiar with it... It's interesting to see what influences us and our likes and dislikes...

I was hoping to hear a Loomis- Bagpipes unison section but it is awesome as it is!
Love the editing and 1:35 -> sweet sounding breakdown (lydian mode)?

Thanks mate. Maybe we'll go for something like this in the future - our guitarist is a pretty good soloist but we didn't want him to show off too much on the debut - we wanted to give more showroom to the traditional instruments.

And yes, the breakdown part is in lydian I think.

Hahaha! I know it's a bit cheesy, cannot really put my finger on what makes it cheesy, but I must agree... It might be the low budget + the 80's sunglasses of the piper... anyway, I hope it's not too bad and I'm glad you like the tune.

Gee, thanks man. I guess my voice is a kinda love/hate thing. I usually get very positive comments OR pure abuse and insults. I'm really glad you like it. My range is not awesome, but I have a timbre that some people describe as warm or pleasant, so that's something to start with. Sometimes my upper range sounds a bit forced, but I'm working on that... It's all about a bit of talent A LOT of hard work in my case!

Northumbrian pipes.

I love this sort of stuff. This kind of music just moves me so much, the combination of tradition and progression.

My new band recived 100% positive feedback here, while on my hometown's music forum 50% of people literally hate us... They say that we suck because what we do is a disgrace to early music OR that we suck becuse we're not metal enough OR that my voice is shit OR that the video sucks cause...brace yourselves... I'm fat... Fat I may be, but what does have to do with anything?

It's not music for 'regular' people, imo. You need an open mind to appreciate this kind of stuff, and this forum tends to have an open mind on music.

Most people would find it either too cheesy or too forced or something because it doesn't fit in the conventional idea of metal or trad music or anything really. That's why I like it, you're not just some power metal band or some generic folk band, that makes you unique, but that means simple minded (herd-minded) people will shun the music.

For example, I have a friend who claims to be a huge emtal fan, but he only listens to stuff like As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Miss May I, Bring Me The Horizon, Suicide Silence. You know the type. Whenever I try to get him into Born of Osiris or something, he's like "that's too complicated dude, where's the chorus, where's the melody? why do they constantly stop and go? why is there no flow?" That kind of person expects a certain thing from their music, and if you do not satisfy that criteria, you are shit.

On the other hand, some people value creativity and musical expression. That kind of person would really appreciate your music. I have another friend who listens to stuff like Within the Ruins, Veil of Maya, and BoO. He doesn't really listen to anything not heavy and he has very high standards for his music. But he loved your song when I sent it to him, even though the cheesiness made him cringe (he has very very low tolerance for cheese). That's the sign of an open mind imo.

I for one, think this is great, innovative and cool (albeit cheesy ). Keep doing what you feel like doing, and .... the haters!

You mean the cheesiness of the video or the music itself?
Anyway, English is not my native language and I know that for different people "cheesy" means different things. What is your understanding of the word?

Thanks man, I appreciate that. You know, I'm not opposed to sound, polite criticism, it can be eye-opening and refreshing. But stupid hateful remarks from smartasses who know nothing about music and act like the're experts and still say things like I've mentioned in the post above used to piss me off. But I'm learning to ignore them. Good criticism FTW, .... the haters!

For me, it is the 80s look and feel of some band members for my friend it was that plus(your) clean vocals + bagpipes. From what I understand, many people I know find bagpipes to be cheesy for some reason.

In my opinion, it's all cool musically. Don't take any of this negatively, I think even cheesiness is good in music sometimes.

By the way, as far as I'm (and my friend is) concerned, cheesiness means something like: "This thing is awkward in normal situations, but it's funny here in a good way"

Let me also give some context: Turkish folk music is very heavy-handed and depressive. This kind of upbeat music would always feel slightly cheesy to most Turkish people (like me and my friend) because it is very upbeat, and we are not used to that. It makes me smile every time I listen to it/watch it, and I believe that's a good thing. Note that I'm not "laughing at you", but I'm enjoying it.

Again, all of what I'm saying is positive. The opposite of cheesy in this situation would be you guys all being in a dark cave and looking grim, and playing doom metal. So it's good to be cheesy. Some bands, like iwrestledabearonce try too hard to be intentionally cheesy, and that is kind of annoying. But you guys seem to be making some heartfelt music which is unique and it is an unexpected kind of music for many people, and some people may react to that by liking it and being amused at the same time.

---------
That was an awfully written post but I hope you got the idea keep making more music!

I know right?
I love bagpipes and everybody around here (southern part of Georgia where a bunch of rich bastards live) gives me a weird look when I say that. But then they all listen to rap, pop, or country, so I can't really say that they have a valid opinion on anything related to music.
