John Petrucci "First day in the studio"

JP tweeted this about 5 minutes ago "First day in the studio and the dawn of a new era for DT. Can't wait to get the music flowing."

I'm presuming they took a drummer with them...

I saw on Fractal Audio's FB page that they were "looking forward to spending tomorrow with John Petrucci"... maybe that means he's bringing the company in to help him dial in som nice Axe-Fx tones?

I bet John has some kind of a deal with Mesa Boogie so he's at least using their preamps.

Granted, but still there must be a reason for him bringing in Fractal on the second day of recording... maybe he wants to backhand-slap Cliff after not liking the "Petrucci rhythm" preset

My guess would be that he's using the Axe-Fx for, you know, Fx.

He should just ask Marco Sfogli for his rythm patch. But yeah, this time I'm actually looking forward to the album unlike the last one.

I can't see Petrucci going full digital with Axe FX. Pretty sure he will stick with Mesa and use Axe Fx for effects. However who knows, he might make decision and swap completely to Axe Fx. But I can't see it happening any time soon.

Super stoked for the new album. I was hoping Bobby Jarzombek would get the spot but all arrows are pointing to Minneman.

It could happen. Those Mesa models in the Axe Fx are absolutely dead on. He could use a Mesa 2:90 and his Mesa cabs for a more simple rig. That said, nothing about any incarnation of his live setup points to simple

I don't see him going full digital especially considering he just made new videos for mesa boogie that just got put up in the past few weeks.

But pertaining to JP's tweet...that guy is a ....ing cock tease. Seriously.

Remember that his live rig doesn't have to be the same as his studio rig... it's not at all impossible that he'd use some amp modelling on the record but not live. With that said though, he's always used quite few amp tones throughout his career,
