To sell or not to sell RG570?

I bought an RG570 from eBay a while ago for $400. it's a 99 model, and came with two EMG 81 actives and the stock passive single coil in the middle. the body is in pretty good condition, no chips, just scratches and tiny dings in the bottom corner. came with a fender hardshell case.

now here's what's making me consider selling it...... the trem stud is crooked and therefore the edge trem is crooked by very little. it's almost impossible to remove the slanting stud because the top chipped. the the slanting stud is in too deep into the body, so whenever I pull up, the knifeedges lift up from the stud and go out of tune. besides, the EMG pickups aren't wired well. it doesn't even use EMG pots (uses stock ibanez pots) and the pickup plugs were cut off and has been soldered onto the pickup selector switch. the bridge EMG 81 doesn't even work in humbucker mode (simple wiring problem).

here is a picture of the chipped stud tip:
http://server1.ripplehost.com/~rh2557/pics/IMG_0091.JPG

misaligned/crooked trem:
http://server1.ripplehost.com/~rh2557/pics/IMG_0092.JPG
(it not just crooked from the top, but since one stud is deeper than the other, it's also slanted by another axis... and I can't fix the stud height because the stud is chipped!)

I paid $400 for this. I can either fix it up, or I can just sell it and forget about it. But I don't want to lose any money. so here are my questions:

A) should I sell this guitar or fix it up and use it?

B) if I should sell, should I part it out or sell it as a whole package?

thanks

if that were my guitar, i'd get something to grip that chipped stud to pull it out and replace. it would appear to be a fairly simple replacement once that stud is out. and, how much do EMG pots cost?

however, i also enjoy fixing things . so, if you're looking for a project, this seems like one!

thats a 99? cause that trem looks like its out of a 90... in 99 if i'm not mistaken they had AANJ and LoPro Edge... thats the first problem with that guitar... i think its worth fixing up, because the crooked trem isn't incredibly bad, that can be fixed with a mere intonation... looks like the guy was an idiot with the whammy bar... probly wanted to be kerry king or rick rozz hahaha... either way i'd keep it, those r fun guitars, i own 2

Actually, most of the RG550/570s shipped with Edges until the end of their production run (Before turning into RG1550's & RG1570's).
My vote: get some more trem studs and fix it up.
And replace all those rustyass screws lol

The regular RG570 hasn't had a LoPro Edge since 93/94. They've had a regular Edge trem all through the late 90's.

First I would pull that trem off the studs and out of the guitar. Then you can usually remove the broken post wit a vice grip. Get a hold of it and slowly turn untill the stud-lock lets go, then you should be able to turn it out by hand. get some new posts from Rich, or an Ibanez dealer. If this is the stud moving up and down, you can just pull it out and use to pairs of vice-grips or pliers to un-lock and remove the post.

If it's tilting in the wood it's gonna take more work to fix. The insert will need to be pulled out the hold drilled slightly bigger and filled with a dowel, then a new hole drilled and the insert/post reinstalled. It doesn't appear to be tilting though, and might just be from the broken stud. If the insert is just loose, you can get JBWeld from an auto-parts store or Walmart, and cement the insert into the body(only do this if the hole is still round and the problem is the post sliding up and down. If the hole is 'ovaled' at all you'll need to do what's listed in the beginning of this paragraph).

You can get the correct cord/plugs for EMGs from EMG dealers from what I understand. They'll have to contact EMG to sort it out. You should be able to get the 25k pots you'll need from any music store worth it's name, IMO.

Personally, I'd sort these out, or sell it as parts. Selling it as it is will involve either lying about it's condition(not good) or taking a loss(also not good since you want to get what you paid for out of it).

Ok, so as I understand it, your problem is that the trem stud itself isn't slanted, but rather one'ws higher than the other, so the trem's uneven?

This part at least is a pretty easy fix. First, take off them trem (you can do this with the strings still attached - great tutorial over at www.ibanezrules.com, where you're going to want to go for trem studs anyway). Then, find the right size allen key, and unlock the set screw (in the hole in the center of the trem stud). Once you do this, you should be able to unscrew the stud by hand - without any pressure from the trem, and when unlocked, they're really not all that tight (which makes it even harder to understand why Ibanez went back to non-locking studs with the EP's).

Then, just put in your new studs, put the trem back on, adjust it until the trem's level, and lock the studs back down and you're back in business.

I'd say keep it and fix it - I doubt you'll get $400 for that one, with the amount of rust on the Edge. Fix it up though, and it could be a great "player."
