Fredrik Thordendal - Sol Niger Within, Version 3.33

Just curious what everybody else thinks of this album. I'm listening to it for like the hundred-million-thousandth time right now and it's just as good as the first listen. Fredrik is not human.

DthMtlDave is on a distinguished road
Great album in my opinion. I've actually only listened a couple times. I listened to it the other day for the first time in a long while, and I realized that I should be listening to it more often. It actually reminds me a lot of Meshuggah's new album; it has the same kind of feel to it. But of course it has some of the same parts as a couple songs from Destroy Erase Improve. I personally love Meshuggah, so naturally I would like this album. Destroy Erase Improve is one of those albums that has consistently been in my player since I bought it in like 1996/1997. The new one, Catch 33, has been like that lately too, and I'm thinking Sol Niger Within is going to join that, now that I realize what I've been missing.

v3.33? Is it a remaster or something?

I've been meaning to buy that disc for ages, a lot of people with varied musical backgrounds seem to rave about it.

I think it was always called v 3.33. Check it out drew, I find it better than Meshuggah *ducks and covers from flying objects* much more of a variety of music involved in it. Although the drumming is the familiar Meshuggah style, there's A LOT of more jazzy parts to it. I actually find the drummer on this CD to be better than Meshuggah's drummer and Fredrik's playing far more innovative. He's not using half of his potential when playing with Meshuggah. EXCELLENT CD for any fan of any kind of music and especially guitar enthusiasts. I do love Meshuggah by the way.

There are 2 versions floating around. The first one has a couple of 'ambient' (read - noisy) church organ pieces, which I really don't care for. Version 3.33 has no organ, and the tracks are slightly reordered.

Definately check it out.

Um, 99% sure that he was using EMG's back then - the Lundgren was a fairly new development for them, I think shortly before they made the switch to 8's and cut "Nothing."

What was the release date?

as hard as it is to talk to Him ((swedish in all)) he had Proto types on that CD of Lundgrens they have been around longer then Meshuggah. Not saying they were all the Lundgren sounds but a few are in there..I should have clarified it. ALL OF HIS 8 string guitars have LUNDGRENS..atleast from every photo I see of them they seem to be. You can tell by the Large POLE pieces on the Pickup the Bobbers.
