If you like prog, go listen to some Neal Morse stuff
... His "Testimony" album is an absolute work of art. However, he has some prayer/worship albums too that might repel some people, but even the music there is very advanced and complex for the typical worship, church music.

I'm a huge fan of Inhale/Exhale, Red and Maylene.

Probably the best 3 christian bands out there. Woe of Tyrants is my pick, some crazy musicians in that band! And if you are talking about like worship music then Misty Edwards and Lincoln Brewster are probably the only people I can stand haha. I don't know why there is this idea in contemporary Christian music that it has to be uninteresting and lacking in musicianship. I don't confess to be a great player yet but I play at church twice a week and me my bassist and drummer try and add some cool textures and arrangements to most of the boring songs as best we can, I think if done right it can add a lot to the worship. EDIT: Just checked out a fellow SS'er band, I the Breather, pretty sweet band! http://www.myspace.com/ithebreather /rant about Jesus talkin bizzness.............HOW BOUT DAT NEW DYING FETUS ALBUM? \m/ |

Most of the Godcore breakdown stuff bites. Hard.
However, there's one totally classic death metal band worth listening to: Incubus. They had two albums out in the 90s, which were total riff-fests. The lyrics were pretty preachy, but if you're a christian, i guess it doesn't matter They reformed in the early 2000s under the name Opprobrium. I have their first disc, and its cool, but dont know about the second one. Also, try mortification. Other than that, I'd recommend Extol. Or Kansas. I think thats about the whole list of good christian bands, honestly
If you list your gear in your signature, you're a prick.

Yeah... Extol, As I Lay Dying, Norma Jean. All mentioned and great bands. I have this old hard to catagorize underground band from the late 90's called
Ethreal Scourge. They were from Austrailia and only put out 1 album but I love it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-zntW-AYDw |

I'd say August Burns Red is worth a listen, but their shit like a lot of other bands of the genre is very very recycled. Either way, Greiner is a monster on the drums. Norma jean has been mentioned enough as well so there you have it
