Children of Bodom did this!
....and now, sadly enough, Evergrey has done this as well. Though, Iam hopeful it's just several bad reviews Iam reading and it's not the begining to a new musical direction their heading towards.

Mmm... probably Korn. 'Untouchables' was such a flop, especially considering how much they payed to make it.

yeah metallica is my big one, and megadeth pretty much followed that trend with CTE. im pretty sure thats a popular album but its not at all like the first 4, they slowed it down and simplified....as usual.

Now... 'Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance" was something that was a bit of a let down, but I think it had to do with the fact that everyone was expecting another 'concept' CD, as Scenes from a Memory.

A nod to Satriani's last three discs. They all have moments, but the majority of them is very forgettable. I just feel like Satch isn't really putting himself into them...

I guess the same would go for Eric Johnson too IMO, since Venus Isle, other than his live album with his band, Alien Love Child, has been quite a disappointment for me.

I'm also a huge Dream Theater fan, but Octavarium was a let down. I dug TOT, but they've been declining since SFAM.

I loved Disc One of 6DOIT, but Disc Two doesn't do much for me.

Alot of DT fans don't like FII, but I love it. It doesn't beat their first 3 albums for me, but it has some sweet songs.

Kreator did some commercial discs too.. they did Endorama, and Renewal.. which sound nothing like Kreator. but then Mille realized "OH SHIT! I'm in Kreator, wtf am i doing?" and then they did one of the best 'come back' records ever, Violent Revolution, followed by the second best Kreator album (after PLeasure to kill) - Enemy Of God, so all is forgiven.
