Such a shame, the first time I heard Type O was a music video for their cover of Cinnamon Girl.
I still love that and I love October Rust. |

This is really sad news, I've been a huge T0N fan for years and always enjoyed both Steele's vocals and his evocative lyrics from hilarious, sarcastic, intelligent to emotional. His legacy won't be forgotten. Often imitated but never beaten.
RIP. |

October Rust was a masterpiece, stayed in my cd player for a year and a half, and I never got sick of it. ɹǝʇlǝʞs ɹǝʇlǝɥ ø„¸¨°º¤ø„¸¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨ ¨°º¤ø„HEAVY METAL¸„ø¤º°¨ ¸„ø¤º°¨ RULES!!!``°º¤ø„¸ ¸„ø¤º°¨¸„ø¤º°¨¨°º¤ø„¸¨°º¤ø |

I've been trying to describe for hours how gutted I am about this, but it just utterly escapes me. I was lucky enough to tour with type o in the fall of 2003, and I remember that tour as one where I could not believe i was sharing the stage with them every night and hanging out with my childhood idols. I have so many memories, have loved his music for well over half my life, so his death just leaves a hole in reality which just makes today very distant and far away. A true musical genius, a true original, unlike many people who claim to be both he was the real deal.

I'm at a loss for words. Really, I remeber when I first head Black No.1 and Christian Woman. I never heard a sound like that before, and I still never heard something quite original like it. Type O is one of my all time favorite bands and I'm really really ....ing sad about this. Peter was a genius, a true genius. A month ago I was listening to them every single day. It gave me strenght, I can't really express it, the music was so deep, so true, so intense!! I nearly cried when I heard Everything Dies for the first time. It's true, everything dies, and this is really sad.
Rest in piece Pete, you'll always be remembered by this community!! |

Pete was a big guy and it's not uncommon for larger people to die like that plus iirc he did have a brush with cancer before the recording of their final album and I imagine getting over it had weakened him physically.
I'm gutted about this though as Pete and Type O were one of the most unique metal bands around an incredible fusion of Black Sabbath Cocteau Twins and The Cure with a little punk rock thrown in for good measure and unlike many of todays bands there was absolutely no mistaking them for anyone else. "I know for a fact that Kurt Cobain never had a problem with Def Leppard, the problem he had was with the other 99 bands that sounded exactly like us" - Joe Elliott "That's the thing about metal, some fans think one band is great and another is just shit while a "normal" person can't tell the difference" - Neil Young |

This sucks. Bloody Kisses and later October Rust got me through a lot of really depressing times. The first time I heard October Rust, after playing Origin, Slow/Deep & Bloody Kisses over and over again I thought OR sucked bad. I couldn't stand that album. I let it sit for a good 6 months before picking it up and listening again. When I did, I never got rid of it, it may have taken me a while to come to my senses but .... that album's great.
Peter, you'll be missed. Sad and lame as it might be, after getting my first 7 a few months ago I started putting together a Type-O-esque track, of course some would say it's just a rip off, to me, it's a big ol' tipping of the hat to the masters. I'm definitely going to finish it now, even if it's only "the beginnings of a pimple on the late great Peter's ass" - to paraphrase a quote from Crossroads. Here's all I have for it so far, Peter it's just a humble thanks for all the great music: SoundClick artist: 14of41 - page with MP3 music downloads |

October Rust really was a special album. Ironic that I was listening to 'Red Water' just last night. Spooky even.

Oh God... Oh my god no....
I'm actually shedding tears right now. Go on call me a fag but this band has been one of my favorites for so many years now. Just a few months ago I caught up on their stuff by buying a few albums I hadn't yet had/heard and have been listening to them frequently to this day Aaahh man...Rev.

I was never into Type O Negative, but this sucks, the guy really was a good singer and bassist. Sad to see him go.

Who's doing the first tribute? EDIT: the TON website has something on it. http://typeonegative.net/index.php Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of it. The history of liberty is a history of resistance. - Woodrow Wilson
