I sent the guys an email, and they liked his playing a lot. Good for him - he's great.

Shane has Stork, SchwarZenatoR, as well as a solo release. He's not just playing in Korn, and sitting on his ass.

I think they were just surprised that somebody of Shane's caliber and style of playing was playing in Korn. You have to admit after watching the video that he doesn't seem like a shoo-in for the position.

Plenty of technical players have little "fun" bands that aren't very technical, but just fun to play in. It just so happens that Shane's big band is the "fun" band, while his technical stuff is more low key, at this point at least.

I think he fits just fine with Korn.

I didn't say he didn't fit - I said he would appear to be a strange choice from the point of view who watched the video and knew Korn only as a nu-metal band.

Shane is amazing on guitar and he has my full respect. I was a little taken back that he'd play with Korn too, but if that's what he want's, more power to him.

Btw, the comments on the bottom of the article are just brutal and are unnecessary......

the comments i thought are hillarious!i dont even consider shane a shred guitarist. i guess thats the label you get if you sometimes tap and play fast lol. anyways. i also liked how poeple talk about nirvana writing good songs. incase nobody has realized most of the time the general consesus of what is good or quality is completely wrong. look at the facts. rap is the highest selling music in the world. is it because it is quality. NO its cuz its is catchy and the common brain can grasp a boom.chick.boom rhythm. shit like this cracks me up. always has, and always will and as for shane, keep it up brother we ....ing LOVE you maing!

cool exposure even though the article comes off abit awkward in it's intentions. Also the internet critics are sad but to be expected when a person with talent has some personal success. It basically just comes down to jealousy.

Shane is immensely talented, but I didn't like the article, because it just treats Korn like an unimportant band when everybody knows how important they were, especially in bringing 7 strings to the mainstream and making them more affordable and viable for a lot of people.

Shane is talented and Korn members are also very talented. Just because their technical kills are way below Shane's, it doesn't mean that they aren't talented. Talent is something that I consider to be very subjective.

Exactly this.

Enjoy the music, forgot the rather obviously jealous trolls.

Somehow, this is the first time I've seen that video...

Holy .... balls, Shane.

2nd time today I feel completely unworthy to be part of this forum.

for the inspiration, though.

*edit* Also, for all this talk about the lack of technical ability in Korn; You can't judge the technical abilities of a player based on their songwriting. I've seen plenty of behind-the-scenes clips where Munky is shredding his nuts off. Same to be said for Steph from Deftones, for instance. They just don't like *writing* that kind of stuff -- at least not in their primary bands. There's a difference between having ability and choosing when to put it to use (if ever), and not having the ability at all.

it's funny, cause in my opinion, korn is LIGHTYEARS ahead of many bands...... not at ALL for Technical ability... but just because they decided to create their own sound, their own style. like them or not..... they ARE orginal. i've been with them for almost 3 years, and i'm STILL trying to get the vibe.
attention to detail is lost many times, in the minds of younger guitarists.... for instance.... when munky plays a powerchord, it sounds TOTALLY different from me. and vice versa. we are playing the EXACT same notes. it's "personality, character." so many LITTLE things matter in music. When i was younger, i thought the same way as these people.
"if i can play fast, i can play anything."
well, that can't be further from the truth. getting the korn gig has been one of the best musical experiences in my life.... kind of opening my eyes, type of thing.
by the way.... munky is a VERY GOOD guitar player.... even outside of korn.... he kinda surprises me here and there.

and "Sami"....
Young guitar is one of the most STRESSFUL video shoots ANYONE could EVER go thru....
you get 2 or 3 takes, no overdubs, nothing.... if you .... up, people will know.
that's why some of the best do it.. like gilbert, nuno, etc... because even when they .... up, they sound good.
