TERRORHORSE - Studio Vid - New Song - 8-strings!

My band just recorded a new song, "Feral", our first recorded with our 8-strings, and with our new singer. You won't hear the new singer in the video, but lots of guitar sexiness. The song should be up on our myspace/website for stream/download soon!

Oh, and some pics, for the gear junkies

That Marshall is a 100-watt JCM800 built in Canada around 1982. Richard bought it for about $500 something like 10 years ago. He got a good deal because a cat peed in it

But he cleaned it up and it works beautifully. He added a tube-buffered effects loop and runs it with his G-System, which switches out his modded Tubescreamer and BBE Sonic Maximizer. The other bit of gear seen in his rack box there with the Terrorhorse sticker on it is the amp section of a Fender combo, which he uses the pre-amp section of through the power of his Marshall for cleans.

If you've had a chance to play both of those 8's, how would you say they stack up against eachother?

All three of us have pretty much agreed that the Schecter's better, feel wise. They're both really nice, but the Schecter just feels really smooth. Haven't done much of a direct A/B test, though we agree that the Schecter Loomis (EMG707) and the LTD SC607B (EMG81-7) sound better than these (EMG808).

I agree, we've really stepped it up. The EP was mostly written by Cam, Richard, and Darryl before Matt or I joined, so it wasn't really representative of the band as a whole, and it was literally the first 5 songs written while trying to find our "sound".

And yeah, Cam's setup is a little strange, most drummers can't figure out how he plays so fast with his toms and cymbals where they are, but it clearly works flawlessly for him

Thanks! Yeah, it's a surprisingly nice bass for the price. I'll definitely be upgrading to something nicer someday, but this may just hold me over until I can have a custom job built

It must be really hard to reign in that low end for this sort of style. Most of the time you see 8 strings used for djenty groove stuff, but this is way more technical and dirty (in a good way).

Yeah man, I get what you're saying. We love a lot of the "djenty" bands, we're big fans of Meshuggah, Sikth, After The Burial, etc. but we're also big fans of bands like Clutch, and love the more raw, "rock" sound.

It's definitely challenging. For the most part, we've found that the F# doesn't work so great as a pedal tone for riffs. "Feral", for example, is mainly in B, with only 2 chords (each repeat of the doom section) and a couple of harmonies/riffs on the low F#. One thing we've been enjoying doing is having one guitarist, and me on bass playing a riff in B, with the other guitarist playing the same riff on the F#, creating a big power chord.

Gear-wise, I never thought a 1982 JCM800 boosted with a Tubescreamer would work with an 8-string, but it really, really does.
