My band, Ugly but Honest: Hear our Demo here.

Ugly but Honest is a good way to describe our music, as it it's really ugly, heavy and simple yet in places texturally complex. We're just doing it because it's what we want to do. So far, this isn't a serious band because we've all got more serious things going on on the side and our drummer is moving back to New Jersey soon. It's a live recording and the vocals aren't plugged into the mixer so they can only be heard faintly in the background. I'm really surprised about the sound quality of the recording, I thought it would come out much worse. Especially the drums.

I promised a few people I'd be putting this up a long time ago, but I had to re-rip it at 128k in order for it to fit on soundclick. It's 7 tracks, all recorded in one take, ....-ups left in tact. I think those of you who are into bands like Converge, Gaza, Botch, Pig Destroyer, Architect, Trap Them, Ed Gein, etc. will probably enjoy it, because they're huge influences on us. I present to you all, 7:47 of suck. Enjoy and if you'd like to comment, it would be appreciated

I like what you're doing. Reminds me a little of Gojira, and I hope you don't take offense to that

Thanks, guys

And no, I certainly don't mind reminding someone of Gojira. It's not really what we're going for, but I won't deny that it may be there. I think Gojira's an awesome band, so thanks

I like the angle you guys are playing, but your guitars are too treble-y. The main draw to the bands you cited as influenced is that they had the dissonant, raunchy as .... lighter gain stuff, but at the same time they could bring the low-mids chest punching sludge too.

That said I'm jealous as .... that your in a band that has that noisy, abrasive angle.

Edit: Listening to it again it sounds a lot better through my headphones!

That trebly mess is the other guitarist. We don't have a bassist, but that's alright cuz my Framus is a pretty bottom-heavy amp, especially through the rectifier 4x12. And believe it or not, my gain is only rolled up to about 1:30 or 2 o'clock on the crunch channel in that recording. The bands cited also have a very driven and raunchy bass tone, and I think we would benefit from adding a bass because that would allow us to take down the gain a little but the other guitarist is opposed to adding any other members. The band isn't serious enough for this conflict to really be an issue. We may add bass eventually but for now, I think our tones compliment eachother well enough. Thanks for the feedback, glad to see there are a couple of people on here who appreciate it

the drummer is pretty good, i like the intro due to the use of killswitch!!!

the overall sound is very clear cut, very edgy, very metal in the material sense....pretty cool.

refreshing not to hear screaming vocals over it

not sure after 01:50

Thanks for the recommendation, they're definitely pretty sweet. I have one of their albums, but I hadn't heard most of the stuff that they have up on their myspace page, and it all sounds pretty killer.

Thanks dude. We actually have a new album recorded. We're just working on artwork and packaging, and I'll be posting a thread with downloads available soon, so keep an eye out. We've changed our sound quite a bit, as it's now a 5-piece with a Moog and 2 vocalists (the bassist and keyboardist), but it's still heavy and dirty.

Here is my thought process as i listened to this:

*About to close out and not comment*

*Okay i guess ill give it a little longer*

*Alright i didnt dig that intro but now im starting to see what they are aiming at*

*Is this supposed to be nu metal?*

*Alright this is pretty ....ing cool. It has some groove but it also feels kinda like some order-through-chaos pantera type thing.*

I like it. The solo style is cool. It reminds me of the chromatic stuff in "To End The Rapture" by Avenged Sevenfold. I support.
