Peavey JSX

Ok I have owned this for a few weeks now, so I think its time for a review.

I bought this without ever trying it based on reviews and the 30-day policy.

First off it comes stock with JJ el34's which is good, some say that the JSX doesn’t have enough gain or it isn’t good for metal. I play mostly metal, as well as some funk, cleans. I also make beats so I use 7 string guitars for funky sounds, etc.

I fucking love this amp for many reasons, I love that it sounds great at low volumes; I live in an apartment so at night I can still jam on it without bothering people and still have a great tone.

As you probably know this amp is very versatile, basically any tone you want you can achieve.

The built on noise gate is ok, but if you’re running high gain, with an OD and hot pickups your going to need something else. I use a NS-2 with it and it’s very quiet.

As far as the metal statements, this amp does have enough gain, I run a TS-808 in front of it and it will blow your head off. There is plenty of gain. The distortion isn’t fizzy like ive heard on reviews its brutal but clear sounding. Sounds great with a de-tuned 7 the b or a sounds great so defined and huge compared to my old rig (valveking, randall rg stacked)

The tones coming from this amp is great, there’s never a really bad tone no matter how you eq it. Its also switch able from el34's to 6l6's and I think also kt77's

I am using it with a mesa 2x12 and I couldn’t be happier with my tone. Based on reading reviews I was also worried about the gain, but dam this thing kills.

Plus guitar center and such has a good amount of room to go down on the price. I got mine for less than 1k, and for that price, you can’t go wrong. I honestly can’t think of anything bad to say about this amp, it has all the features, volume, gain, versatility that I would never need.

That said, I hope that helps but if you have more questions about it, go ahead and pm me.

Based on the tone, price and versatility I'm going to give it 4.5/5 Cousin Larry’s.

this amp has been calling my name for a while.
How does it sound compared to a 5150? can it get as heavy?

I have only played a 5150 briefly, but this amp is very heavy and crunchy, and imo can get dam near any metal tone you want, I also use a ts-808 with it, with a gain at 9:00 and just use it as a little boost.
