Power amp to match an E530?
Just snagged an Engl E530 (finally) off HCAF, and I'm one step closer to my rack. Korg DTR-2, Power Conditioner, and I've got a line on a Pod Pro, DBX Compressor/Gate, and a furman PQ-3 Parametric Eq. for now, I'm probably going to be running it through the power stage of my Madison Divinity or the 5150 II sitting in our practice room, but I'm trying to sell the madison and I don't own the Peavey, so when the madison goes, I'll need a power amp. I've heard the pods don't like tube power amps, but I do, so I'm looking at everything.
The tones I'm looking for are pretty clear-cut. I'm gonna try use the pod to get a REALLY processed tone like: and i'd really like to be able to get a tone resembling the guitar tone on Arsis' "A Diamond For disease" I know that Malone uses (used?) Randall solid-state amps for a long time, but no idea what that was recorded with. keep in mind I don't necessarily want to emulate the tones, just get kinda in the same ballpark. really tight, with a lot of... snap? a ton of really precise gain, with as little sag and sponge as possible for that reason I've ruled out stuff like the Mesa 2:100, and if possible, I'd like it to be 6L6 powered (if tube), but SS is fine, too. As always, cheaper the better, but i'd like to keep it under... $700, new or used. I'm sure there's some stuff that's off the beaten path that would be great. So, you have a power condition, or you need one? I didn't understand you, cause I have one I could send to you with that bass to help with the retarded shipping costs you incurred.

honestly, shipping wasn't that bad. even with the tracking numbers, it was marginally less than you paid. There's one on CL that I was thinking about grabbing, but if you've got one that you're looking to get rid of, i'm your man.
the real trouble was finding boxes, so I kinda jury-rigged them and padded them well. also... what bass? I think you may have me confused with someone else. I'm retarded. I did two trade deals. I traded a guy a bass for an Intrepid and my ht-5/neck for your explorer, I got you guys confused.
![]() I'm also meeting another guy to trade for another intrepid. I have a problem. Ibanez RG7421XL w/ DiMarzio Evolution and Liquifire Ibanez RG7321BK w/ Blaze Custom Agile Intrepid Pro 828 w/ EMG808 My band Scarangella |

One's a standard and the other is a pro. I might keep both, I might not.
They both have maple boards, unfortunately. I'd really like at least one with a ebony/rosewood board. Oh well. Anyway. If you're looking for a good tube power amp and don't need tons of power I'd go with the Mesa 20/20. Or a 50/50. If you want the more modern features/more power 2:90. I'm pretty sure the album with The Face of My Innocence was all 5150, not Randall. Plus, at least back at that time, he was using a 5150 when I saw them. The 5150 will definitely nail the Arsis tone.

A lot of people like PODs and Tube amps. Try through both and see what you like.

If you haven't heard of it, Carvin sells the TS100. 50 watts per side, and you can use either EL34's or 6L6's for tonal experimentation and variety. It currently goes for $550 new, unless I'm mistaken.

If you're going that route, make sure you get one of the new ones with the better ventilation. I had one of the old ones, and after a long day of playing with the band, something in the poweramp overheated, surged, and melted that half of the PCB board together. It looked like a 3D version of a swirl paint job in green, black, and silver.
