NAD - vintage mesa content :D

So i went into my local music store really just to change my banking information (i have stuff financed threw them) and to kinda start looking at a new cab. i found a new cab, a brand new Mesa 2x12, so i traded in my old one for it.

but the big deal was what was sitting on it, an old head.... a dream head for me. i had been starting to look at getting something different to replace my Dual Recto, and this was it! while getting my old cab to trade in, i also grabbed my dual and traded it as well to get the new head.

it's in near mint, has 2 of the footpedals and is fully loaded.

so enough teasin, here's a few pics. i snapped these with my phone camera last night, if the band has practice tonight i'll take my good camera and take some really good pics of it.

Here she is, my new to me Mesa Mark III Black Stripe, a.k.a my Lil Behemoth

Ha Ha! My buddy calls my Mark IV vintage! It's funny because they only stopped making them a few years ago, but mine is made in 1990. So I guess it could be vintage. What makes vintage- vintage?

Nice grab on the Mark III...

got any settings tips? the controls are a bit weird, although i've read the manual a few times now, so some are making sense a bit more

start with
volume 8 pulled
treble 7 pulled
mids 5
bass 2
lead drive 8 pulled
Lead master 4
master volume to taste
pulling the master really changes the tone stack (deep pull) I didn't like it with humbuckers but it sounded great with single coil pups.
keep the bass on the dials at 3 or below or it really muddys up the sound.
these are pretty standard settings for a III, the GEQ is where you'll really make this thing sound good or bad
use a slight V to start and go from there.
Congrats these things can kill (I ran a clean boost in front of mine and an MXR 10 band
in the loop and mine sounded really nasty (in a good way).
this is pretty close to how I ended up keeping mine set

lead channel pedal goes in front On the bottom under the guitar input) the R1/R2 pedal goes in the back underneath the effects send.

I keep the treble, mids, and bass all down 1 notch from there (6, 4, 1) and have everything pulled on the IIC+. Sometimes I push the master back in if it's too bass-y.

I ran mine thru a hotplate so I had to make some adjustments, without the plate I would defintely turn the treble down, and keep the presence down low too, or it can get real "ice picky" quick.
I've never played thru a IIC+ so I don't know if they are inherently brighter than a III or not.

Nice!
those settings look pretty good to me!
put 2 6l6's in the outer tube slots and it will get even thicker and smoother sounding! I ran my III with KT-77's on the outside, they mixed really well with the 6L6's, A little smoother than the el 34's. I'm running my IV with all 6L6's now. It sounds "bigger" to me tht wasy.
Congrats again the III is smoking amp!

I run my presence at 3 most of the time. Sometimes 4-5 if I'm playing at bedroom volume but never any more than that. So yeah, it's a bright amp
