Amp Shootout. Engl, Framus, Rivera, EVH, Mesa.....
Hey guys I'm in the market for a new head.
I'm looking at some high gain heads that seem to be popular. I don't have the opportunity to test all of these heads. So I might have to go by your opinions. After some research, this is my tentative list. Engl Invader Engl Powerball Rivera K-Tre EVH 5150 III Framus Cobra Mesa Mark 5 All of these heads have a good clean channel. So I'm not worried. As far as what tones I'm looking for.... Something like this.... Listen to .02 to .10 seconds in the beginning of the video. That is my ideal rhythm tone. |

The framus doesn't have the low mids of the clip. I would say maybe the k-tre or the mark V. I dont know too much about the tone stacks of the 5150iii. But a 5150 may get you close

Scoop the mids on whatever you get 'cause in that clip, they sound UBER scooped.

Out of those in the list, The Powerball or Cobra will get you something like that. But he does use a Randall V2

for the recording they miked a vetta 2 with meshuggah's vetta 2 preset, so perhaps that might be your best alternative?

Bulb, i was told it was a POD they used - thanks for clearing that up. I find the tone is a little scooped on that album, still good though. I saw mark using the RC, a phase shifter, and i think maybe something else - no GT-10. 3 pedals or 4 on the floor, one of which was a floor tuner IIRC. |
