AVT 150H + cab - yes or no?
hi all been playing for around two and a half years now, been a 7 string man for a good few months now amd so iv got to the point where im looking for a good new amp.
I play a warlock nj series and im getting new active pickups for it in about a month. i have been playing through a line 6 30watt spider 2. its nice but it just sounds a bit fake compared to marshals i'v heard. have any of you guys had experience with the atv150H. im no expert on amps so im totaly open to oppinions. im looking to spend around £500 and i can get the head and a cab for around that. thanks p.s. i play metal but i need a nice clean channel too
if its too loud, your too old

If you want a good amp, then the AVT is not it.

Hi there dude well it's entirely up to you as to what you buy but from what i've heard of the AVT's they sound sort of ok at bedroom levels but don't really hold up in a live/rehearsal environment & sound pretty lame when mic'd too IMHO. If you can, hold out a little longer & buy somethin a little better. Some of the other valvestate's are a little better but it all depends on the sound you're after but then so are some of the higher powered line 6 amps too. I'd personnally go for a second hand set up

Shannon would probably recomend the mg series. Why not check out the peavey valvekings?

If you get a Marshall solid state amp, check out an MG100RCD (MG series) & the even older Valvestates.
Do not get the newer MG100HDFX. Those have LOTS of quality & reliability issues. AVTs are cool because of the 4-channel setup, but the tone is pretty blehhh. Randall makes some great solid state amps for the cash. Check out the Peavey XXL also. ![]() |

+1 on the Randalls and older Marshall valvestates (especially the 8100 series)
With that kind of cash, go with something used. Check out the newer randalls, older marshall valvestates, peavey xxl, even the older randall's (rg-100, century) with blow the piss out of an AVT. Match one of those up with a g-flex 2x12 or an avatar cab www.avatarspeakers.com and you'll be one happy dude for less mulah than a brand spankin new marshall valvestate. |

Personally if i had £500 i'd look into the Laney Pro Tube heads. They are dirt cheap but sound like a hot rodded JCM800. I know of some one who got a laney head AND cab for about £350. Just have to look on ebay.

hi thanks for all your replies can i get some oppinions on these. sorry don't know how to do hyperlinks, so i hope these work...
1. http://www.zzounds.com/item--CRAGLX1200HS 2. http://www.zzounds.com/item--VOXADSTACK 3. http://www.zzounds.com/item--HUKMHS 4. http://www.zzounds.com/item--RANRX120DHS i left out the MG100HDFX and could you please advise on a good laney because i like your reccomendation but i know nothing about laney and im not really sure what im looking for. to shannon, i couldnt find a place for the older MG series, i will check my local guitar shop as they stock marshall but they get through stock pretty fast so i doubt they'll have anything old to sixpounder, with the avatar cabs are there any compatibuility issues with mixing heads and cabs, i was going to just go with a head and cab package but if you guys have done this in the past then i value your advice. thanks for your time rogue |
